Title: CDex PROBLEM!
Post by: mattcharles on 2006-07-18 15:24:05
I went to go open up my Cdex and it will not open up!
It keeps saying error and I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it.
is there another program I can use that is as good as this?

Anything I can do?

I don't know which version you are using, but you should try 1.70 beta2 and 1.51:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=567 (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=567)
and see if you have the problem with both version.

Also you should file a bug in the cdex bug tracking:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=10056...amp;func=browse (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=100567&group_id=567&func=browse)

Forget about CDex, use Exact Audio Copy (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/).

And Easy CD-DA Extractor (http://www.poikosoft.com/index.html) is even better.

LAME encoding is damn fast: One hour audio-cd takes only 4 minutes to produce mp3 files.

When it comes to getting an error-free rip with a wide array of different drive types, nothing touches EAC.

When spoon's new ripper comes out this may change but EAC will still be the best solution that is free of charge.

Can you say that about Easy CD-DA Extractor?

It could be an ASPI layer problem. What operating system are you using btw? some of the bugs still need to be worked out.

... but will never be GPLed.

You download EAC and use it, but it's a nightmare to configure. Except to spend a lot of time reading about it, if CDex still won't run on your O.S

Come on... EAC isn't more difficult to setup than any other rippers out there... It isn't rocket science you know. The only difference is that EAC features some more technical settings that one can dig into later if wanted/needed after doing some simple research in an EAC guide or two. I would hardly call this a nightmare... I could understand if you where talking about learning assembler programming or something, but onestly, EAC ?

Yeah, I agree that setting up EAC is a breeze.  Just use the configuration wizard.  If you want more, then here's a good guide:

Windows XP Home Edition. This started before I updated to the new one. I think it started after I uninstalled Norton from my PC.

It could be a Visual C++ Runtime Error. This and the ASPI layer are common problems for some reason. The ASPI layer issues effects rippers and writers alike, i.e EAC, etc.  Anything from Microsoft is just crawling around with bugs anyway

I understand their are a lot of great guides for setting up and using EAC (one too many to say the least). For everyone of the 3,000 posts reguarding it there are three miracles to three horror stories. I personally don't think the average user would care for plugging things into the command-line. I personally don't care, but I have other quarells with the software anyway and I will leave it at that, nothing personal.
