For HDCD "testing purposes", I guess  a "testing build" could be a good thing? One that could scan through the entire files, and report the following:

* Where the packets start and end. I don't mean every packet, but time-intervals where HDCD appear to be switched on - also if HDCD is off for some interval, report how close to track-end HDCD starts again. That could help identify identify those cases which due to index 0 appended, have packets "intended for the next track". Who knows whether that "next track" even ended up on the CD, especially if it is a compilation, but if there is HDCD at end of "file track N-1 and continuing into file track N" - i.e. "in CD track N index 0 and continuing into index 1" - then it stands to reason it was intended to be applied from first sample. But, if it then switches off quite soon?
Seems you may want some scan "as albums" functionality?

* Identify other potential false positives, like "single-channel" packets. They are likely to be ignored; and, if evidence says those do not come with any HDCD features, then they should certainly not trigger any "halve volume 'Always'"?

* Identify events where "the only HDCD feature to apply" is low-level gain in digital near-silence. If there is only the "HDCD dither" to mute, then what? Sure sure, technically it matters ... but ...?

The main reason I still use lossyWAV is to process my lossless FLAC master music library for use on a portable device - firstly it reduces filesize and secondly FLAC is an "easy" CODEC to decode, incurring not very much device CPU load while listening. As an example of this decode efficiency here's a link to a rather old Rockbox anmalysis for a number of devices: https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/CodecPerformanceComparison . While device CPUs will have increased dramatically in performance since then, I'm doubtful that the relative CPU load of different CODECs will have changed so much that FLAC will use significantly more battery than other CODECs.

LossyWAV is a fantastic idea and tool, but I don't think it will become very popular over time. You probably know the popular mantra: space is cheap, don't bother with lossy, keep your original safe, etc. Many people will stay away from it, and the epidemic of audiophile and audiofoolic behavior is still ongoing, so it won't help to give visibility to LossyWAV.

Another weak point for LossyWAV is that if someone is looking for efficiency, there are better tools to efficiently reduce the footprint of your audio collection. As you mentioned, MP3 at 192 kbps sounds fine to your ears. So, what perceptible advantages could a 500 kbps encoding offer you? A little voice might whisper that you're just wasting space and still losing the original uncompressed files.

Future-Proof: yes, but is it more future-proof than something else? You mentioned Musepack. It's a good example. The format has not been developed for almost 20 years. The community seems very small, smaller than ever. And you know what: it was never that easy to play MPC files at home, in a car, or on a plane.

Last but not least: you can encode your high bitrate Opus, MPC, AAC, or LossyWAV to another high bitrate future zUHD-AACv8, Ogg-Spaceship, TRALALAC. Okay, there will be another layer of loss, but it won't be audible at all (and you'll probably be half-deaf by then, which won't help).

P.S.: I'm not using LossyWAV but WavPack lossy, which is almost the same concept with much less compatibility and no possibility to encode it to another format without loss. So I'm totally on your side. :)
P.P.S: I'm cheating, because I kept most correction files so technically I'm still keeping lossless. But I might change one day :)

I would appreciate it if any others who would like to see the ability to align lyrics text in the panel to Top Center, etc., like OpenLyrics provides, they would please add a thumbs up to my request at the ESLyric GitHub feedback site here:

Currently there is no way to make use of or reduce the large gap that exists from the top of the panel to where the first line of lyrics begins.  Thank you!
