Okay I see for example :

Menu:
- Alchemy  -> Random
- White cap -> Random
- Untermalende Farben (don't know what the english translantion is)->Nordlichter
                                                                                                -> Einskristalle
                                                                                                -> and so on...

Window edge -> None etc.

My first idea that I can click on config.

Now am I right that the context item will show if the vis has a config dialog?
So if not the "config" will appear but won't work?

I thought that the "->" is already the config options

I am confused 

Okay now I get it I installed the twisted pixel thing
result -> when choosing twisted pixel the opens a config box.

When I choose anonther vis i can see config but no results when clicking.

if you have at least one vis available, you'll see a SEPARATOR LINE after the last one.
everything above the separator line are specific to the wmp vis available.

under it, they are specific to my component, with only one exception, "config".
this item is for configuring the current vis (more specific, the current preset setting of the current vis).

ok, if the current one has a config dialog, the item will be enabled, and when you click it, it will show the dialog.
if it doesn't have a config dialog, the item will be disabled.

you need to understand the WMP vis, give you an example:
if there's only one vis called V and it has 3 presets V1, V2, V3, what you see when you right click is:

V
  -> V1
  -> V2
  -> V3
---------
Window Edge
Always Active

Thanks for this, the new version seem to be working well for me, it is much appreciated.

Feature suggestions:

1)I would like store a visualisation name for a track in a tag and have that visualisation selected whenever that track is played.

I'm not sure whether this is a difficult or easy request.

Maybe you could provide these functions in your component and/or expose the name of the current visualisation and the context menu so thay can be used in panels_ui.

2)visualisation menu commands which can be linked to buttons etc. in panels_ui
e.g. next visualisation, previous visualisation, random visualisation....

Finally! Poor visualization support was the only thing I didn't like about Foobar. I still can't get G-Force to work, though. For some reason, it just doesn't recognize when Foobar's playing, whether it be using the stand-alone or this. All the other visualizations work fine though.

Nope. It always happens when I am using the AVS visualization and I change songs. It might have more to do with the AVS WMP plugin than with your component.

A friend of mine is using foobar under Win Vista. Using this plugin there always appears a strange message saying that a side-by-side configuration is invalid.

I get crashes when using this as a tabbed panel. Same log as what was posted above, "illegal operation" yadda yadda yadda. It doesn't matter whether a song is playing or not. Anyone else see this?

Edit - Actually, the crashes seem to be dependent partly upon what visualization I'm using. For instance, if I use one from the 'color cubes' set, I always seem to get a crash, yet if I use something from 'battery' it works fine as a tabbed panel. Also, a few times it caused a crash as soon as I inserted it into my layout as a tabbed panel...probably because one of the offending visualizations was the first thing loaded, not sure though. It's strange.

Hi,

Sorry to dig up such an old thread but I was wondering how to activate the visualization?
I've installed version 0.1.2
I've copied the "libmmd.dll" into the foobar folder.
I also copied the "MSDIA80.DLL" runtime library to the foobar folder.
I have the default WMP that comes with WinXP.

I can start playing music but I don't see anywhere an option to activate/show the visualization.

Now I feel stupid less than average, I still haven't gotten it to work.
I managed to successfully install Columns UI.
I read some of the wiki and I searched for "visualization" and "panel" but found nothing enlighting.

I looked in the prefs (File->Preferences->Columns UI) but failed to locate anything relating to visualization.
If I rightclick on the Toolbars I get a menu with an "Visualization" entry, alas it only contains the default "Spectrum analyser".

Am I looking in the wrong place?

Acropolis: Does this plugin cause memory leak as projectM did? I took a quick look and it seems it doesn't, but i'm not sure.

Doesn't work for me. Upon starting foobar I get the following:

"Failed to load DLL: foo_uie_wmpvis.dll
Reason: This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. "

I've inserted the foo_uie_wmpvis.dll file into the MAIN foobar directory. Is it supposed to go somewhere else? I tried putting it into components but still the same error. Please help.

i've got vista rtm business with wmp11 and my wmp11 has alchemie, stripes and waves, and batterie but my foo_uie_wmpvis only shows alchemie?!?

probably the wmp in the business version is different from the ultimate version, I can't test it as I don't have that version.

I'm sorry, I can't seem to get this to work.

I have a panel with the wmpvis plugin and i have WMP 10 installed. I even installed this twisted pixel thing.

Now when starting foobar the plugin tells me, that it doesnt find any visualizations.
You said that it would support the bars and waves as well as the battery plugin. Both are present in my WMP 10 and when I right click the wmpvis panel it gives me a "twisted pixel" item, but clicking on that does nothing.

What am I doing wrong?

OK  I installed the WMP 11.
Now the plugin found more visualizations.
I may have selected the wrong plugin, because first nothing happened again. But then I restarted foobar, and it crashed.
I then had to remove the plugin from my foobar folder and restart foobar.
Foobar asked me if I wanted to keep the settings, or discard them.
I discarded and closed foobar.
Then I put the plugin back into the components directory and started foobar.
Now the plugin seems to work with the bars and waves.

I think I figured out when foobar crashes:
If I have the wmpvis panel activated when starting foobar, it crashes.
If I activate the panel AFTER starting foobar it works fine.
So now I have to disable the panel every time I close foobar or else I can't start it.
Any way around this?

I never get crash during startup with this component, but I recommend you to try the update I just made.
