can't play cue

Hello,
Look what message I get when trying to play a cue file:

"Unable to open item for playback (Error parsing cuesheet: unknown cuesheet item (line 1)):
"D:\Downloads\Gerald Veasley - Velvet (2003) [EAC Ape - Cue] + Covers\[Gerald Veasley] Velvet.cue"

Please help!

Open *.cue with notepad and if file extension in FILE line is incorrect, change it to ape (or other, watch what format is song).

Open the file with notepad, then click "save as" and in the "encoding" field choose UTF-8.

I tried it but no success.  Below is some of the cue file:

;
TITLE Velvet
PERFORMER "Gerald Veasley"
FILE "(01) [Gerald Veasley] Coup Deville.ape" WAVE
  TRACK 01 AUDIO
    TITLE "Coup Deville"
    PERFORMER "Gerald Veasley"
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
FILE "(02) [Gerald Veasley] Sarah's Song.ape" WAVE
  TRACK 02 AUDIO
    TITLE "Sarah's Song"
    PERFORMER "Gerald Veasley"
    PREGAP 00:02:44
    INDEX 01 00:00:00

I don't understand why I should do changes in the first place.  Aren't cue files supposed to be opened without editing? Also, what exactly am I to change?  There are cue extensions in the file.

Thank you!

I would suggest trying to remove the header from the cue sheet as a was under the impression comments like this should be behind REM statements not ; semicolons and your original error was "unknown cuesheet item (line 1)". There are many kinds of cue sheets out there, some conform to standards more than others. Foobar is very picky about it's cuesheet parsing so you might have to occasionally edit things to make them work.

I do not use cuesheets much, maybe someone else has a better answer.

Oh, cue splitter. I have the same problem with that. I just use EAC and get that cue sheet. Since i couldn't figure out how Cue Splitter sheet works. Sorry, i hope we find a solution.
