Software Patents Choke Innovation

The EU Council of Ministers is pushing for unlimited patentability of software. Although this would ensure the continued gainful employment of hundreds of patent lawyers, it’d make software development in Europe an even riskier affair than it is already, considering how many trivial patents there are already.

The European Parliament decided on the 24th of September, 2003 that there should be limits to software patentability, a decision supported by 300,000 citizens, 2,000,000 small and medium-sized businesses, and dozens of economists and scientists.
