EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Those 'in the know' will know what that's about ;D

Hey guys, just thought I'd say hi and that I'm going to try to, more or less, be back around these parts. It's been a while

*Faints*

Edit:

But wait! Does this mean that Andre Wiethoff, Andre Buschmann, Frank Klemm and Nando are also coming back?

Or even Dibrom?

I would love to see KM come back.

Hmm, no idea if the others will show up. Maybe we should organize a reunion?

Now that would be great! There would be some real 1999 magic going on

A daytime job at the IT sector seems to be the biggest cause of people disappearing. It's also the greatest killer of good codecs and free audio software. EAC Andre got a job and EAC development stalled to xiph.org level. Musepack very nearly died. A number of previously active ha.org members went to Nero AG (Ivan, Menno, Garf, JohnV etc) and disappeared. I wonder if Nero AG is recruiting people right off these boards ('cos if they are, I'm interested )

Not that I blame them, though. I work at the IT sector myself and I can say that after coming home from work (after doing some serious overtime, of course) you do not feel like coding. Nowadays I'm using my computer mainly for very short web browsing sessions and games. Previously I used to code all the time.

Wow! Well I guess we'd better get to it then. I got my BA in Philosophy and am in Law School now. My hobby in audio moved to the hardware side as I've been working on trying to make high quality portable stuff. I miss the old days, though, with Andree and MPC and everything was moving fast and big things happening in lossy audio.

Oh well. Also VQF ist still DEATH. I tried it the other day for old times' sake.

Anyhow, I at least plan to try to become a regular here on HA; something I never managed to do even back in the day. HA started up when my participation started to drop off due to school. I'm hoping to rekindle at least some of that past spark, and enough of you guys are still around that I find it's already starting to happen for me at least

Hi.  I'm still around, more or less.  I don't tend to read the boards here very often anymore, mostly because I don't have much time these days, but every once in awhile I take a peek.  The little time I do have is mostly spent on Lambda the Ultimate (http://www.lambda-the-ultimate.org), various other programming languages blogs, various mailing lists, or (rarely) in #haskell on freenode.

I guess I don't have a whole lot to contribute to the whole audio thing anymore... *shrug*  The community seems to get along pretty well without me now, so that's good.  I'm still glad to have been a part of it early on, even though, looking back nowadays, I think people tend to give me too much credit -- most of it should go to ff123 (hopefully it should be obvious that HA was inspired by his principles) and the codec devs and tool devs (Case, Peter, etc.), and then the well known regulars.  Even some to Roel as I think ff123 recently mentioned.

What takes up my time right now is school.  Things were slow for quite awhile on that front, especially while I was very active in the audio community, so now that gets my full attention.  For those that are interested, I'm now at Portland State University studying CS and hanging out with the ex-OGI Haskell crowd (the Programatica and Omega groups mostly).  I'm hoping to start on my Ph.D. soon, at which point I may disappear entirely...

Whoa?

Dibrom - Hi there! Nice to see ya around . I know how it feels to be busy, especially in grad school; it gets hard to keep up with everything!

I was dying to write "At some point Dibrom got all computer-sciency and started hanging out with the Haskell crowd" but I didn't have the nerve

I've been programming with Haskell for the past year or so. Great language. In an ideal world, it would be the only language.

In an ideal world, you wouldn't be be able to affect anything else unless your type signature included IO ()
