IDT audio driver giving me headaches

Hi everyone!
Being a lurker for quite some time and always got answers for my problems thanks to this community.
But now I am at a loss with a little problem on this desk computer I am writing right now:

It's under windows XP, the motherboard is an intel 946DGZIS and it's installed the IDT High definition codec for its audio onboard card. My big problem is: the detection of headphone and acoustic 5.1 system (I have a creative one) changes back and forth all the time and neither of them are working!

I'd like to know if there is a work around and disable the front panel audio for good...
Thanks in advance!
