software recommendation - split audio file according to silence within

I wonder if someone can recommend a nice freeware Windows program for auto-splitting a WAV file into 2/3 smaller files, according to silence in the audio. The usage scenario would be editing a track ripped from a CD (usually the final track) where there is a song, then a period of silence, followed by another song.

Ideally I would like if the audio wasn't chopped at exactly the point where silence begins, i.e. the starting song might include 2 seconds of silence at its end before the chop. I remember years ago when I had a MiniDisc recorder, and I would record a CD to MD, the MD recorder would automatically insert track marks after 2 seconds of silence - I'm thinking of some kind of equivalent of this.

I haven't used the freeware Audacity audio editor for some time, but I installed the latest version and it has a feature in the 'Edit' menu... "Clip Boundaries > Detach at Silences". It seems to do what I want. Might be a useful pointer for someone.
