I haven't used foobar2000 for a little while now, but I've come back to it and really like the latest version. But I'm trying to find a plugin I used before that made editing tags really easy.
It was basically an expanded properties dialog that allowed me to tab through the fields and tags to quickly edit what I wanted, and then I could click on a 'Next' button to save my changes and move on to the next track.
Anyone know what plugin this was? Or something similar? I used it about 3-5 years ago. Sorry to have so little to go on.
This one is not that old, but may be helpful. TagBox (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=81194)
boombass, if I understand you correctly, you don't need a plugin:
- Select the files in question,
- then open the Properties dialog (Metadata tab),
- select either a single or several or all tags,
- now invoke a right-click and choose Edit.
A new window pops up that allows to do what you are looking for. If you select only a single tag for editing you may have additionally to choose the "Individual Values" tab.
Read the Properties Dialog's Usage Tips (http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Foobar2000%3a%50roperties#Usage_Tips) for the same answer, but in much better English.
If you use a horizontal 2-pane layout, you can have a playlist viewer at the bottom panel and an "Item Properties" (component) showing at the top panel.
Whatever item you click on in the playlist viewer at bottom immediately synchronizes with the "Item Properties" panel at top.
All the Metadata entries in "Item Properties" panel are inline editable.
So basically speaking, the perfect solution has many answers, and to narrow the answer down to one would require you to describe your required user interface
in exact detail, and a screenshot would be nice too.

Derty2,
I am attempting to do just as you specify. It appears that I can highlight and put a cursor on the metadata fields in the selection properties text boxes, but I cannot apply any textual modification. Is there a setting that can change this behavior?
What are you talking about exactly? I just did the exact same thing and it works.
The "Metadata" section in the Item Properties panel is inline editable; just like NG Playlist.
NG Playlist and Item Properties synchronize; as you select tracks in NG Playlist, Item Properties window will update its display to the selected track(s).
As you edit metadata in Item Properties, NG Playlist will update the column corresponding to that metadata field.
Click on a metadata item in Item Properties with a little more force than usual.
Have you ever inline-edited an item in NG Playlist ? Item Properties is the exact same thing.
Check your Item Properties settings (Right click Item Properties window -> Options).
Your Metadata Display "Name" on the left should correspond to a Metadata "Field" on the right.

Perhaps I am confused. I was referring to the "selection properties" UI element. It appears that you can edit it, until you type and nothing happens. I tried just having the properties dialog up and selected different tracks, and while the selection properties element switched, the properties dialog (in-line editable) did not.
Thread is in 3rd party so Derty is assuming you are using Columns interface. Items properties panel is a part of CUI. You're Selection Properties is an element of the DUI. So you are talking past each other.
Your Selection properties is not editable as you have already figured out.

Ahh, that would be the problem. Naturally, in-line editing is a part of CUI. I tried it briefly, but found it has a difficult time showing my custom metadata. So I'm back to DUI with simplaylist or EsPlaylist.
Sorry about the confusion my man.
