Live recording to lossless format

A newbie question, tried the search but couldn't find anything.

Is there anyway to record (from soundcard line-in) directly to a lossless format, and thereby saving diskspace?

Of course I can record to wav first and then encode, but I thought it could be neat to record directly to a lossless format instead.

CDex > Record From Analog Input = works good.

Another way I can think of is using Winamp 2.x with LineIn and Filewriter. Both are found here. It's kinda a tricky set up, but I can vouch it works

edit: Almost forgot, CDex records into APE and MPC, Filewriter will encodes to APE, OGG or MP3

dBpowerAMP Music Converter with the Auxilliary Input add-on will do it.
