Please, I miss my favorite player so much on my Surface! I am tired of the Metro UI-based music players - I want Foobar in Desktop Mode in Windows RT. Is it possible to re-compile the player so it can work on ARM processors?

Hi, I don't want to sound rude, but are you one of the developers? I don't know how much effort it will require (for re-compiling or porting or whatever), but if there's an official negative response from the main developer(s) I will certainly be sad but I guess there's nothing to be done about it.

Unfortunately, fb2k is pretty closely tied to win32 APIs, so porting it to winRT (the API) would be quite a project(like porting fb2k to any other platform).
However, with foo_upnp, I'm more holding out hope for a solid UPNP windows store app for my surface. The built in Music App is pretty much a disaster.

I'm sorry, not a developer. I just thought that since Microsoft seems to have got most base Windows programs working as also Office, maybe it was possible without too much trouble. Of course they have ship-loads of (our) money so resource availability is not an issue for them, even if a complete program re-write is required...

I agree about the Music App! That's why I'm hoping so badly for something with the class of foobar or even close (beggars can't be too picky!) to work on Windows RT.

I wish Wikipedia would actually cite a source for this, but it says here on the Windows RT article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_RT) that the only desktop applications supported by Windows RT are those bundled with the operating system.

On its Windows blog, Microsoft said Window RT will not run legacy or new x86/x64 programs; will run only on ARM-powered devices; and, while it will have a desktop mode, this will be limited to Microsoft-created touch versions of Word, Excel, One Note and PowerPoint.

Boomaudio already has a pretty touch-friendly interface, unfortunately it is also an x86 app that would need lots of time porting.
What is "Boomaudio"? Are you referring to Peter's cut-down version of Foobar called Boom?
Anyway, looks like my fervent prayers have at long last been answered! While it's not Foobar, the next best thing i.e. VLC is getting ported to Windows RT (http://www.videolan.org/news.html)! I even donated (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1061646928/vlc-for-the-new-windows-8-user-experience-metro) to make it happen, so that I can play not just my FLAC files but also MKV videos on the Surface. This news just makes my tablet purchase worthwhile, so as you can imagine I'm rubbing my hands with glee; cannot wait till it's out.
