Full 24/96khz unmastered track for tests/analysis

Seems like some people have been looking for full resolution 24bit hi-def source material for analysis and comparison.

So I've uploaded a FLAC'd version of one of my old High School band's songs that I recorded completely in that resolution from scratch on a Pro Tools HD3 system and did a pretty solid mix of in a professional studio.  This material has not been limited, mastered, dithered, or altered in any way.  It has full stereo dynamics and was straight off the mixing console.

Feel free to download it, hack it up, encode it, decode it, transcode it... whatever.

There is some odd scratching on the far right channel that many people probably won't notice.  That's not a bug.  It's in the mix, unfortunately.  Hope that doesn't drive the golden ear people nuts

If people do find this useful, I'd really appreciate if someone would offer to host the file for long term storage.  My webspace doesn't have enough space to keep it up.

I'm going to have to take down the file from my webspace, as the bandwidth useage is too substantial.  If anyone who has yanked this would like to host it, that would be awesome.

can i use this sample for an experiment with my headphones?

I want to see if i can record the binaural effects of my K1000 headphones with my binaural microphones, I need some material that I can use and put online (if the effect is audible). All it would be would be the same track just rerecorded via 2 pairs of headphones so you can hear the difference in the presentation.

i must say i'm very impressed!

the audio-quality is excellent, but that's not the only thing. the arrangement of the track is great and the song itself rocks

here you can hear how dynamic range can impove the listening experience!

i'm very interested in audio engenieering. i would very much appreciate if you could give me some details about how this recording was done, which equippent you used and so on.
if it doesn't fit the topic we can discuss it via PM but i think other people are intrested too

Since this is in the general audio section, I think I can go into some of the details here.

I recorded this almost three years ago at [a href="http://www.iprschool.com]The Institute of Production and Recording[/url].  The school had just opened at the time and I was one of the only students. 

The signal path was...

Drums:

Kick - Shure Beta 52 -> Digidesign Control 24 -> Pro Tools HD3
Snare Top - Shure SM57 -> Digidesign Control 24 -> Pro Tools HD3
Snare Bottom - Shure SM57 -> Digidesign Control 24 -> Pro Tools HD3
Toms - Sennheiser 421 -> Digidesign Control 24 -> Pro Tools HD3
Hat - Rode NT1 -> Digidesign Control 24 -> Pro Tools HD3
Overheads - 2 x AKG 414 -> Digidesign Control 24 -> Pro Tools HD3

Guitars:

All electrics -> Line 6 PODxt -> Digidesign Control 24 -> Pro Tools HD3
Acoustics -> Rode NTK -> API 512b -> Pro Tools HD3

Vocals:

Rode NTK -> API 512b -> Pro Tools HD3

Bass:

Piano was some Roland module (unfortunately... I wanted to mic one up).

That's not my prefered set up anymore... I'm way into ribbon and room mics now.  But it sounds good, none-the-less.

I mixed the song at Mastermix Studios with their SSL 4000G+ and using most of their outboard equipment, hehe.

However, my sound card (Audigy 2 NX) is resampling everything to 96khz, and the difference I'm hearing might be related to that.  I will re-SSRC the 44.1 file back to 96 and test again - once my ears get a little bit of a rest.

One question:

Since the source is 40dB below peak, how are you handling normalization when down-converting the bit depth?

Track peak was at 0dB for the source.  And 0.07dB for the converted file.  No need to normalize
