Other Lossy Codecs / Re: Using lossyWAV for an "open MQA" ?

Now, if they start paying fees again, what about the time where pees were not paid? Can you be sued retrospectively? That doesn't seem fair.
The linked page says: "patents kept alive due to a provision that allows missed payments to be made retroactively". So that seems a 'fee related expiration' is one that can be reversed.

Can patents be extended (past their 20 years term) retrospectively? Can you like "unearth" MP3 patents, for instance?
Once again, I'm not a lawyer, but I found this. Apparently patents can be extended, mostly with drug-related patents, due to the delays in patent publication or product approval. Doesn't seem to apply to software patents, as no approval is necessary such as with drugs.

Anyway, this is US law. Patents elsewhere in the world probably work differently.

3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k) / Re: Columns UI

Hi musicmusic.
I couldn't find if this had been brought up already, though I'd be surprised if I was the first. Would you consider adding another Buttons panel Appearance option to turn off vertical edges/padding? I have two long rows of square black buttons, and would like to rid my otherwise dark interface of some unwelcome grey lines. The only way I know how to crack this nut is by using the sledgehammer that is changing Windows color settings.
Thanks.
I don't believe the buttons toolbar should have any padding built in. Is there another panel or toolbar to the right of them?

General - (fb2k) / Feature Request: Autorequeue Playlist (autorecover playlist files)
Last post by tkdd -
Sometimes the Files/Folders of the Music collections are moved/renamed.
But we all have great Playlist. For this case we need to remap the Playlist Item to the correct Files after Movement.

Suggestion: Playlists should include a CRC32 or Hash for each File.
After Foobar is not able to find the M3U/Playlist File inside the old directory it should search for it.
Maybe using the grat library. so i dont have to fix my playlist by every entry on library movement / folder movements.

Also this could be nice for renamed files.

Hope you got me

Goddamn, OK.
I thought there was no real way to extend patent protection past its expiry date, but OK.

Someone please clarify.

I see the decline of popular music as a parallel to all the corruption that's happening in society.
... rather playing the soundtrack to our youth, when we invented free-sex-on-questionable-quality-acid *puts on Woodstock movie*
Oops, that was one generation or two up ... or maybe three by now?

I can't help agreeing with you, actually - but yet: old farts have always been whining. I wish that when I was a teenager I knew John Coltrane (and John Zorn), so I could have effectively shut up old aunts who claimed that metal was just a noisy reflection of declining society, while jazz was ...

(Old farts whining will at some points in time be right too - and that time is now. *knock on wood*)

CUETools / Re: Weird results when there are dots in filenames

You may be able to standardize the source album art file names and adjust the list of "pattern match" for the source album art files.
Settings > Advanced tab > Album Art Files
The current version separates patterns using semicolons (no spaces)
Code: [Select]
folder.jpg;cover.jpg;albumart.jpg;thumbnail.jpg;albumartlarge.jpg;front.jpg;%album%.jpg

So thanks to korth! I hope lots of people told you that this programm is marvellous!

And to the colon in "5:01 Blues" -- is there any field in the settings part, where I can order the programm to replace reserved characters with similiar ones?
That has been requested but not available at this time.  <<edit: not available

Speaking of requests, I've added a suggestion that the program assume ".cue" is in the template if the user neglects to add the extension.

Well, the .cue did the clue. Now (it seems) that all the encoding and transmitting works perfectly right, with the one exception that indeed in the case of the >>>K.T. Oslin - ''My Roots Are Showing...''.jpg<<< I get no JPEG in the destination directory. I do get one, when I rename the source file to folder.jpg.
This should be no problem, guess it's because of those quotation marks (Gosh, I had really forgotten that word). But there are not to many cd titles with quotation marks in them, I guess, so everything seems to be fine now, thanks korth.
So thanks to korth! I hope lots of people told you that this programm is marvellous!

By the way, I just didn't know, that I could put a ".cue" at the end of that input line. And to the colon in "5:01 Blues" -- is there any field in the settings part, where I can order the programm to replace reserved characters with similiar ones?

FLAC / Re: Why FLAC level 5 was chosen as the default and recommended setting?
Last post by Markuza97 -
Not releated to FLAC but anyway...
MP3 is still very popular. Why is LAME encoding to 128 kbit/s CBR by default?
Why not switch to V2? Maybe even V3 or V4?
128 kbit/s CBR is archaic.

Every other encoder seems to target normal bitrates.
QAAC targets 192 VBR.
Opus targets 96 VBR.
x264 (yes, video :P) targets 23 CRF.
