Title: PL search - options
Post by: juglesh on 2003-12-25 16:13:00
i think it would be cool if the search box had an option to use the letters you type in by sequence.  uh, how do i say this, well, if you type
"ween"  you'll get:

afghan whigs - big top halloween - here comes jesus
Cure - Misc - In Between Days
Dirt Surfers - misc - My Weenie Dog Has a Goiter
Gas Huffer - Misc - Mr Inbetween
among many others.

with the group, Ween, down at the bottom of the list.

I would like an option that when you type 'w' you'll get the first entry starting with w in your pl .  so, for me, typing 'w' would bring me to Wall of Voodoo.  ok, then i type 'a' (so my search box now says 'wa') and the list wouldnt change, but i then type 'r' which would bring me to the group War.  if i typed another 'r' (now says 'warr') the group Warrant would come up (no i dont really have any warrant in my list  )

actually, i think this could be a separate thing from the pl search.  this functionality would be nice to have as a toolbar on the main interface.  there should be a hotkey that would put your cursor into this toolbar, then you'd start typing.

this would be really helpful in large pl's, when you want to get to a certain artist quickly.

speaking of quickly, is there anything that speeds up the current pl search?  maybe its just my old puter (celery500) takes a few seconds to start bringing up results.  i have it set to search filename (my files are named napster style,
a - a - # - t) with no limit to results.

It's seems you need this:
foo_playlistfind (http://www.loodi.com/foo_playlistfind.dll).

You could use foo_dbsearch (http://www.stud.uni-karlsruhe.de/~uzbs/fb2k/html/) to do your searching for you. In the "format" part just put the tags you want to search. So, if you are just searching for artists, put "%artist% %trackartist% %performer%" (no quotes and removing the other two if you don't use them). Then in Pattern you put what you are looking for. Then choose either "match all" or "exact" to find exactly who you want.

It's not quite exactly what you want, but it is close and works well. I have no idea if db_search works on 98.

I simply grabbed the source from the original author who has apparently abandoned his foobar component development.  I compiled the code for the lastest SDK and made the few minor changes for that to happen.  I've done no other work to it and don't really plan to support it other then to compile it.  AFAIK the component never worked on Win98.  The source is available it someone else wants to assume ownership.
