Using ipad as remote contol (what apps?)

Can this be done? I basically want to be able to select tracks in foobar remotely from ipad. I don't need to do streaming. Music will be played through foobar on my desktop computer. Hope this makes sense.

Ok, it sounds like foo_touchremote might be what I'm looking for. I don't see any screenshots of the program though. Will I be able to see my playlists and touch select specific songs?

Have never used, but based on quick read of FAQ and the following, I would think so. I am failing to think of what value an ipad remote would be if you could not see anything

  • Browse artists, albums and tracks in your media library
  • See now playing track along with album art
  • Search for tracks

foo_touchremote and the "Remote" iOS app is exactly what you need.

I've had good luck with PlugPlayer and foo_upnp; YMMV
Was that a 1 or a 0?

You can check my thread below this where I asked for a recommendation for a UPnP app for the iPad to do remote control. I was recommended foo_touchremote and the Apple developed Remote app for the iPad which is what I went with. Works great, the Remote app is very well integrated with the iPad since it is developed and supplied by Apple. This is a very slick interface to foobar.

I'm currently using touchremote and iOS apple remote app and it works well.  I also use plugplayer but didn't like it as a upnp controller as much as apple remote (great for streaming though).

I've also tried a few httpd web apps but find them too slow.  At the end of the day I keep returning to apple remote.

The only thing missing is queue control.  Such as a "play next", "play now" and "add to end of queue" to dynamically build a playlist.  I understand that touchremote is based on dacp and is limited (i hate how it sends the whole album rather than just track but thats how itunes works) but i am surprised there is no foobar native app controller with queue support.

That said, if I create a playlist and play it I can do most of that, just with more "fiddling" rather than purpose specific buttons.

My dream would be a Sonos like controller.  An iPhone/iPod touch/iPad with Touchremote comes close but doesn't quite have the ease of usability and 1 touch controls.  Then again Sonos is not FOSS and it's 24bit HD FLAC support lacking and Id be paying for a DAC I bypass anyway.
