foobar2000 v1.0 beta 6

foobar2000 v1.0 beta 6 has been released.
Download...
Read release notes...

List of changes:
  • Bug fixed: Inconsistent behaviors of the "Colors and Fonts" preferences page when importing themes or using the "Quick Appearance Setup" dialog.
  • Shoutcast stream titles are now parsed as UTF-8, allowing Unicode characters.
  • Improved compatibility with (unofficial?) FLAC multichannel specification.
  • Internal clean-ups and fixes.

This is most likely the last beta version before 1.0 final. There have been no major bug reports since the previous beta. I personally recommend all users to install it - make a new portable install if you don't want to overwrite your existing 0.9.x install yet - and try it, so if there is anything seriously wrong, you don't miss your chance to report it before the stable version is out.
Microsoft Windows: We can't script here, this is bat country.

I hope the track-numbers of the asx-files which contain multi-entries can be shown, just like mslive done. And the Urls are treated to other fields, therefore the metadata of the "artist name" and "track title" can be edited.
Thank you!

Still no way to have livestreams in the library and creating an autoplaylist to show them?
Can't wait for a HD-AAC encoder :P

Within a file, would it be possible to write the ALBUM ARTIST field after the ALBUM one (and not always on the first place)?
The problem is, that when ALBUM ARTIST comes first and tags are not unicode, some applications and (portable) devices with simplier sw "think" that - with a space after it - the ALBUM field is buggy and discard it. Annoying.

As far as I'm concerned, that wouldn't break any standards and could solve a problem.

I can't believe the utf-8 problem with shoutcast is finally fixed! I've waited for it quite a lot of time.

Now nothing stands between foobar2000 and perfection

Hi there!
I'm an enthusiast foobar2000 user!

But I still have problems with multichannel FLAC files.

How could I get foobar to output them with 5.1 through SPDIF?

SPDIF doesn't support multichannel. The bitrate is simply too high for the spec. You should however be able to transmit multichannel PCM through HDMI.

I think handling of asx playlists with multiple "mirrors" of the same stream is not beautiful (fb2k adds every url to the playlist then). Example: http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3.asx --- Not sure, but I think fb2k should not treat such asx'es like playlists. It should only select a working url. I don't know if there are also "playlist" like ASXes out there and if they maybe can be distinguished from "mirror ASXes".

This is a really minor visual quirk, but I've just noticed (never before have I performed such a massive encode) that in the converter progress window, if both "time elapsed" and "estimated:" is h:mm:ss, then "speed:" isn't displayed, and since the window isn't resizable, there's no way to make it visible.

I think asx playlist are still playlists. When stream is inside an m3u playlist along with all its mirrors FB2K does not do any smart guessing. It should not do that for asx playlist either.
I apologize if I've missunderstood.

This would be a really handy improvement!

I'm not an expert here, but this is from my experience. I think there's simply a difference in asx and m3u typical usage. As far as I understood, ASXes offer playlists as well as "mirrors for the same stream". AFAIR this is the reason why mslive plugin offered a checkbox "playlist". Also it did manage to display one fb2k playlist entry, but handle the url reference internally.
On the other hand I see, VLC is also showing all entries in it's playlist. Still, above mentioned "internal handling" would be a nice-to-have, simply since fb2k is muck more playlist based, and entries like http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3.asx would mess the playlist.

i need to ask that. for win7, this is just 32-bit software, right? so it goes to "programs", not programs64"

Yes, however, it's:
Program Files (x86)
Program Files

And you can always install it in portable mode wherever you like.

ok, thanx. still, if i do NOT want to install in portable mode, 32-bit is right? just asking because it´s nowhere written. there are 2 versions of win7, so if u are going to final, plz be more precise in "supported OS".

btw, anyone can explain to my why u just give torrent-file to download? i don´t use torrent and guess many others don´t either. is it realy ur intention to say: "u can´t download because u don´t use torrents?" strange i say.

edit: feel free to delete my posting. thank you for your help and don´t misunderstand me.

32-bit applications go into Program Files (x86), 64-bit applications go into Program Files. The setup program should suggest the right location.
You may of course install things wherever you want (and have permission to), but that's the canonical division.
Stay sane, exile.

well, i'd really appreciate if the mouse was hidden automatically after a few seconds when visualization is switched to full screen, coz it's really annoying to pull it to a corner again and again.

even better would be an option to disable screensaver/hibernation/anything when it's in fullscreen.

and your handling of utf-8 cuesheets is still broken, but i'm already warned because of "pointless bumps" in the related thread (no reply since march) ...

and oh yeah, foobar won't display album art via cuesheet, another "pointless bump" in the related thread, no reply since february.
