FLAC + cuesheet

Why are flac+cuesheets so slow compared to ape+cuesheet or wav+cuesheet?

I have all 26 tracks of a cd in 1 flac file using external cuesheet.  The first 2 or 3 tracks and the last 2 or 3 tracks load ok but some of the tracks in the middle 15,16,17 don't load at all (I get an error message saying that it was unable to load them).  the reset of the tracks load really slowly ???

I then converted the wav to ape, and it seems as quick as the wav ???
