No. The loss only happens in encoding phase.
i know this doesn't fit into that kind of forum but anyway... what could be the problem of my CD-RW TEAC 16/12/40.. it never burns my cd in time because it keeps losing chache (i'm glad it has burn proof because otherwise all my cd's would be ruined...) i tried raising the buffer value (now on 55MB) but my results are still very bad... can you help? (i downloaded the new firmware but it is said that i don't need it...

Air_Borne, make sure your CD-RW drive has DMA mode enabled. This is especially important if it is sharing bus with the device you get data you burn.
hm, where exactly can i enable DMA?
Go to Device Manager. If you are using win9x the setting is in CD/DVD Drives your drive. Open drive's properties and mark DMA checkbox there. Under 2k/XP the setting is in IDE/ATAPI controllers primary or secondary IDE channel, depending on where you have the drive. There under tab Advanced Settings select "DMA if available".

an something else... i heard that in some cases cd's are not perfect (especially some made in asia - e.g. fuji) and they create some mistakes while burning. which manufacturer is good? i am going to store albums on cds, cause i don't have enough diskspace for now, so i want to make sure my cd's will still sound as perfect as if they would be stored on disk...
If your ide drives are DMA capable you should keep them that way. That way accessing them is not so CPU intensive.
For the consern about cd media quality, check this site: http://cd-rw.org (http://cd-rw.org). Personally I have used also cheap low quality discs and I haven't had any problems with them.

If your hard disks are less than about 5 years old, they are almost certainly DMA compatible. There are different varieties, but that does not matter so far as settings in Windows are concerned.

All current motherboards support the first 2, some support UDMA100, but very few yet support UDMA133.
None of that matters to Windows and the hard drives are all backwards compatible. Hope that helps!

hm, the program doesn't work.. it says it has generated errors- so the program doesn't run.

well i think i should write that i lended my teac writer to my friend and we tested it... the same bullshit happened even though my friend has a ibm ata66 7200 rpm disc and i have wd ata33 5400rpm...
i guess that i will just try to replace my writer for a new one... (it is still in guarantee /or however that is spelled??)
uhm... and i tried to check how it works on nero cdspeed - it works absolutelly brilliant.... it is even better than my cd rom teac 540e- who is doing it's job very bad.
average speed (both audio and data) are:
for TEAC CD-W516EB (cd-rw) : about 30x
for TEAC CD-540E (cd-rom) : only about 4x ???????????? (on the tests on www.cdspeed2000.com (http://www.cdspeed2000.com) my cdrom should do much better than this!!!)
well i guess both my cd rom and my cd-rw are acting strange. cdrom isn't doing its job as he should be, but cd recorder is doing cdrom's job instead. but when coming to burning he does hos job baaaad
