MP2 is de facto standard in Europe for stereo broadcast, AC3 for multichannel. AAC is commonly used by IPTV operators, which transcode services to lower bitrates (limited transport capacity) and by newer broadcast networks (DVB-T2, HEVC, HE-AACv2).
