Anyone familiar with GAPs (EAC?)

Sorry I can't find the appropriate section for this so sorry if it is the wrong place.

I am being  asked to make a rip on EAC but with a CD which has variable gaps. I don't know what this means and need peoples help in understanding what it is they mean?

They're not willing to help me in any way explain it.

Is it something to do with configuring the EAC Detection Method and knowing the right one to use?

If so how would I go about knowing the right one to use?

Thanks.

Select Detection Method A and gap the disc 3 times. Write down the resulting gaps on each pass and compare them. In all 3 passes the gaps must be identical!! If they are not select Detection Method B and do the same thing, if all 3 passes are not identical try Detection Method C. Whichever method results in 3 passes with identical gaps is the method you should use.

You don't know how to do what? Change detection method? Detect gaps? Write down results?
