A test encode of a randomly selected CD from my collection:

SV7 0.90u --xtreme:  size 79.50 MB; ave bitrate 205 kbps
SV7 1.0 --xtreme:      size 79.50 MB; ave bitrate 205 kbps

ie, identical encode size.

Did Frank just decide that his encoder version history was getting too clse to z.

When extacting the new plugin to the winamp/plugins dir
Winamp crashes when trying to start it.
Am I the only one that experiences this problem?

Edit: Running Windows 2000 SP2 with Winamp 2.79. Intel-based system.

Can't test it myself right now, but I heard similar results elsewhere.. So looks like this is a problem.
Not the greatest quality control for 1.0 release...

[edit]Old Winamp plug-in was removed from the decoder package. WinAmp plugin 0.91 is now available separately.

The plugin that comes with decoder seems to be really old, 0.90f. So even if it worked, it would be better to use later version.

Edit: The latest Winamp plugin seems to be version 0.90m. The sources are on Frank Klemm's page but binaries are not.

Hmm, I wonder what type of OS you guys are running? I got the WinAmp plugin to run on my machine.

I use WinMe and WinAmp 2.77 and its an Intel based system.

I also wonder the reasoning of releasing a v1.0 of MusePack, when SV8 is coming in a few weeks time. Just my thoughts tho'

while we're discussing the mpc winamp plugin -

the tagging window should be closed when the user presses ESC... just a thought..

and yeah, why 1.0 when SV8 is just around the corner?

Also along these lines:

The comment-field now support multiple lines, but pressing the return key (while cursor is actually in that field) closes the entire window. This is not optimal.

1. There was not release of a new WinAMP Plugin version. Only
mppdec and mppenc exceutables were tested and released
for Windows and Linux. Tests were done on Linux 2.2
    and Windows 98, Window 2000.

2. WinAMP Plugins will be uploaded this evening.

3. Korean version is NOT uploaded because I can't test it.

4. APE Tags still can be written because the exact format of
APE tags is still not defined (currently there's some DIC
documentation and I can't distinguish between errors and
    intention in DIC documentation).

5. WinAMP 3.0 and MJB 8.0 plugins are developed by some other
developers. Please inform me about such developments
and URLs for download URLs. Don't change this URLs more
    often than your stockets.

6. Informing me means writing an eMail to
pfk @ schnecke.offl.uni-jena.de . Writing some text on
a sheet of paper or writing some text in one of the thousand
BBS or writing a posting in the Fidonet or a documention
in your local radio station are irrelevant.

7. A multiline comment can be insert using the Ctrl-M key for the
next line. This works with nearly every OS from 1978 (24 years
  ago), i.e. CP/M 1.0-3.0, MSDOS 1.0-7.0, Unix, Windows, VMS, ...

I was just curious if anyone knew what the changes in the encoder were from .90u to 1.0??

Thanks!

Is this winamp 2.xx plugin more recent than,  or an improvment to, the ICL version spase posted on musepack.org a couple of days ago? Also, is there a non-Pentium (read *3dNow!*) version of this plugin?

Thanks.

No, because AMD never published any kind of optimized compiler.

But it should work fine on K6 and Athlon processors, since they have MMX technology. (And even better on AthlonXP, since it uses SSE too).

Roberto.

Thanks-I wonder why they didn't release a compiler. I knew that the ICL versions work on Athlons and Durons, I was just curious if there was a version that might be optimized for AMD-the user base is wide enough...

Didn't know that! But then again, I'm only 22.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but when I'm writing and want to hit the next line, my right pinky acts by instinct alone, hitting that return key within milliseconds! Maybe it's time I teach it to think before it acts, huh? And maybe I also need to realize the Winamp-plugin was not designed for word processing.

The AMD-optimized compiler is gcc, and AMD is working with the gcc team.
But most of the efforts are targeting k8 and not k7.

Meanwhile, gcc -mcpu=athlon works fine.

Amd also ships CodeAnalyst wich can do a simulation of any amd cpu and point bottlenecks in the code.
They also ship a fast math library. Although less extensive than the intel signal processing library, it's quite usefull.

I have sorta of a little problem with the MusePack WinAmp Plugin 0.91. Well when I go to configure the plugin, my rainbow coloured slider bar, goes way off into the yonder meaning that it goes outside the window dialog box. Whereas using john33's ICL compile this problem never happens.

So what type of problem would this be? A compiler issue or something completely different?

Using WinME, WinAMP 2.77 and running PIV

Same problem here.

So it seems its not an isolated problem

Since using two different binaries, using different compilers can bring a difference to the resulting binary. So I was wondering what compiler Frank is using? And whether decoding using his compile and comparing the wav with john33's ICL compile would bring a difference (would do it myself by my computer is in the process of getting rebuilt  Using my ancient old one). I have seen problems occur when the binary was not compiled correctly at compile time, and very bad bugs introduced.

I don't know much about programming myself, so this is just a theory anyone that can run the test and please do and post the result on this board, its all very interesting to see what effect compilers can do the binary which in the case of audio compressor affect the resulting file.

Cheers
