Title: foo_touchremote - Remote control for iPhone/iPod Touch
Post by: odyssey on 2010-04-03 21:37:22
iPhone Remote support plugin (foo_touchremote) is an implementation of DACP server for foobar2000. The key feature of Apple’s version of DAAP is using Bonjour for discovery, so you need Bonjour Service (http://www.apple.com/support/bonjour/) (usually you already have one installed with iTunes).

Quick Start: Download Apple's "Remote" app from the appstore. Install component, go to the plugin settings page and pair with your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Try foo_touchremote 0.1.2.1 now! (http://wintense.com/plugins/foo_touchremote)

Great plug-in! Surprisingly fast on the iPhone side of things.

This is a great addition, but I do have a question...

Where do I put the script that I would like to use for the 'Artist' sorting on my iTouch, i.e. I have it sorting by ArtistSortOrder (Artist Last Name First), and have subtracted 'The' in band names.  Works on the PC, but on the iTouch, it does not sort the same way. Is there a place to reset this?

Thanks!

Probably not, but you can mail the author to include custom sorting. I think that's doable  Link is in the first post.

Thanks so much! The remote function is the only reason I had iTunes still installed, and this works so much better with my library set up. Thank you!

OK let's start here again :-)

Hey great tool :-) [hope this is the correct thread]
Just two comments:

a) bug? directly after selecting a play list and pressing “random order” (displayed on top of the list content) foobar crashes (0.1.2.1 foo_touchremote, foobar 1.01, already has random order selected)

b) search results are much less than in foobar’s search. maybe because “title” or “filename” is not included in search? Hint: missing files are ape, wav or flac or titles given within a cue sheet only.

Anyway, absolutely great and I certainly will continue donating… Thank you.

This looks pretty promising. It appears to work well, sometimes it has a hard time connecting to the library and times out, but otherwise it appears to work great.

Do u know of any video players for windows that work with the ipod remote other than itunes?

Thanks for confirming - I thought it was just my wifi-connection  Anyway, I'm not the dev, so maybe you should try sending him an email.

No, but PlugPlayer app will stream UPNP/DLNA content from a media streamer

No worries. It seems to have "fixed itself" after i resynced it. It seems to connect to the foobar library aboot a second after the wifi

Sounds interesting, but if im within range of my wireless network, the last thing i'd watch vids on is my ipod touch. It makes an excellent remote control though!

edit: on the other hand, it might be interesting to try streaming vids over my vpn. i dont know if my upload throughput would handle it well though.

OK, no response, but I got it going: I forgot to remove "*.cue" exclusion from foobar settings.

Is it just me or does it make foobar2000 crash every time you press the "Shuffle"-item instead of a certain track?

Well, don't make this sound like a limitation of Bonjour - It's a basic limitation on network routing.

A router takes IP-address and allows a different network to communicate out through this one IP. If you want to access anything behind this router (on the different network) you will need to tell the router which of the local IP's you want to communicate with, the protocol and which port number. This is called a NAT translation.

Quote
The Bonjour networking protocol sends and receives network packets on UDP port 5353.

It seems quite odd to me that you have placed your wifi BEHIND a router... Unless you do it from a security point of view?

I've tried this component on about 3 seperate occasions but every time I've had this bug show up every time foobar started;

Quote
Reason: The specified procedure could not be found. foo_touchremote

and since there isn't an official thread, there wasn't anyone to query to try and find a solution.

I found one other user who had the same problem via google but there was no fix posted. Has anyone else had this happen?

this plugin has stopped working for me after the latest itunes update. the 4-digit passcode thing seems to work, but then the remote app sits there "looking for library" until it eventually times out.
just curious if anyone else is having the same problem or knows how to fix it.

Same here, but I wonder if it's iTunes, because I just installed Bonjour - Nothing else. However, I know that Microsoft forced some updates on the foobar2000-PC/server, maybe it could be those?

Since Microsoft's security update MS10-021 (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS10-021.mspx) from April 2010 (KB979683) some programs cannot locate the user profile folder anymore.

I don't use iTunes and foo_touchremote, so I do not know the architecture of this software, but you could uninstall this update to see whether it is the culprit.

Same problem here. I loaded the plugin for the first time on Friday evening, and it worked perfectly. On Saturday morning the iPhone remote can't find the library. I am using only Bonjour, no iTunes, and have not installed any Windows updates (I have them intentionally disabled). The only variable is that I loaded a large new directory into Foobar's library, but even after reverting to my library's "test config" it's still not working. Very odd indeed.....

Interesting....I loaded the plug in with my very small "test library" on the iTouch. It connected right up. When I deleted that library and added a large new one, the plugin ceased to work (pairs with Foobar but can't find library). It seems the bug has to do with adding/changing/deleting directories to the library. I'm out of ideas now, but would really like to make this work......

I think the bug is simply some bad configuration or something like that. I just updated foobar2000 core without touching foo_touchremote, and it simply works now.

If it doesn't fix the problem, maybe try to remove (or rename, just in case) the configuration file foo_touchremote.dll.cfg and see if it fixes the problem. Note, that I'm not allowed to recommend this, as it will ultimately blow up your computer and some admin may be responsible blablabla... (yeah, I actually got a warning for that once - TWICE!)

Hi guys, Ive been using the plug for quite some time. I got the same problem at found out that if you play ramdom songs with foobar while its trying to connect, it works. I know it sound stupid but it works.

Also a bug? that I dont know how to override is that if you select a playlist that is not "remote selection" then no matter what u select in the remote, the next song will come from the selected list and not from the album you selected in remote.

Any1 found a solution to this?

Seems like the guy doing the development is not updating his page for a while

Hey guys

This tool is just amazing, but i'm stuck at sth.
I can't search for Artists, Songs etc. On the "Remote"-App I just see the "Playlists" and its no problem to play songs of them. But if I click on "Artists" or "Albums" there is a message: "No Songs, You can download songs using iTunes." And so far I can't search my whole library.
Is this just not possible or am I missing something?

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

I've been using Foo_touchremote and am very pleased with it. I however have one issue. Searches from my Ipod are case sensitive. ie: searching for "moby" will not show result for "Moby". Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

the case sensitive searching looks like it would have to be sorted out on the devs side.

being able to rate songs would be killer!

most of the connection issues seem to happen most often when there are multiple devices connecting.

Apple updated the Remote app to version 2.0. I updated the app to v2.0 and foo_touchremote no longer seems to function. The foobar2000 library will not appear in the Remote app, even after removing the paired device (in foobar2000) and re-pairing it. Can anyone else confirm this behavior, or is it just a quirk with my setup?

Hi,

a question regarding the Touch plugin. I have an Ipod Touch with OS 4.1 and installed the latest Itunes 10.0.1 on my PC.

I then installed foobar2000 1.1 without any plugins - just the plain foobar. Then copied the new touch plugin into the components and started foobar.

Under Settings/Tools I switched to Iphone/Ipod Touch Remote and paired the devices - this worked perfectly and pretty quick :-)

Then I wanted to connect tzo my library but there's no chance. I searches and searches but did answer. No error or other notification.

Does anybody have the same problem?

Regards,

Alex

Hi everybody.

I’ve posted nothing here for a long time. With all that moving and job changing stuff I actually had no time and stamina left for my hobbies.

But I’m sure you’re more interested in the plugins here and not in my private life  Some news for you:
1. foo_w7shell isn’t going to be updated in the nearest future. It works rather fine and doesn’t need a lot of attention.
2. foo_touchremote is NOT dead. The work on it was just resumed

And the most significant thing: my view on touchremote project has completely changed. The primary motivation factor was my backup HDD went to the better place (R.I.P.), so I’ve lost a major part of the project’s source code  And I’m just too lazy to write it all in C++ once again.
So the project is going to be rewritten from scratch in C#. It wouldn’t generally target only foobar2000 (foo_touchremote.dll will be only a layer to bridge with foobar’s media library), but also could be plugged into any player. When the core components are ready, I’m going to make a binding to the Windows Media Player as well.
And since it is a managed code, it’s not only for Windows – Linux guys could also port it to use with Banshee (or other player which could understand Mono-based plugins). Since there’s no Bonjour for Linux platform, there would be a way to switch to another mDNS implementations (most likely it would be zeroconf project).

But don’t expect it soon as the work has just started.

That’s all I wanted to say for now

Foobar was starting without problems and the pairing did work perfectly. But after this no response from the device. It is searching for hours now. No notification or error warning. Does anybody have the same problem? I completly deactivated the firewall, restarted my wireless router but no change.

Regards,

Alex

Hi, I just bought this iPad with latest OS, I tried to synchronize it to foobar2000 1.1 on my pc that runs Win XP sp3.
So I downloaded Remote 2.0 and Bonjour only and no iTunes. In your opinion what happened? I entered the four digit code but was impossible to find foobar library. I tried with windows firewall on and off.

Now I’d like to know if it is a problem due to the “touchremote.dll” that is not suitable for the latest OS…and if hopefully it will be fixed.

Best regards and many thanks to anyone who has the willingness to help me

Gianluca,

The update that the author released to fix the problem didn't so if you have Apple remote v2 and dont have the earlier version on itunes so you could revert (if you haven't synch'd after update to v2) I'm afraid you will have to wait for the rewritten version that the author is apparently working on. Sorry can't give you a quick fix.

Every one who has a problem with the iPhone remote timing out while searching for the library needs to make sure they have a a playlist activated in foobar2000.
For some reason the remote app won't see the library if a foobar session is just started and no playlist selected.

Hi Robert, for"playlist selected" you mean that a tune of that playlist must be playing during the searching?

Apple the 15th of October released an update of Remote 2.0, I installed it on my iPad and tried to connect to the foobar library but still nothing. Did anyone have the same problem ? I also installed iTunes on my PC and ripped some cd to ALAC, in this case Remote works perfectly and it is outstanding…unfortunately without asio control it sounds  less dynamic and open compared to Foobar

Thanks Odyssey, that patch worked. I'm having crashes when I tap on the shuffle button on the playlist screen though, on the ipod touch 4th gen. I gotta start play first with any song in the playlist and then shuffle works just fine (from the "now playing" screen). It's especially annoying when this happens though cause I lose the library on the ipod, and I have to pair again.

Also, instead of crashing when searching from artists like the author is experiencing, I don't get anything on the ipod, the lists for Artists and Albums are simply empty.

Hi everybody,
after downloading the new version of remote and the patch of the foobar component I'm able to connect to the foobar library but when I choose an item from the author list the system is stuck up until is timed out. On the contrary it seems that the list of albums is normally retrievable. I didn't have this problem with the previous version. Could anybody help me...?
Thanks

as Gianluca suggested I checked the OS of my Iphone. In fact I didn't have the last version installed. I therefore installed the newest, but  nothing changed: Remote connects to the foobar's library; I'm able to get the artists' list, but when I choose one artist the system tries and retries to get something up until it is timed out. Now, even the album list is not retriveable.. ...  Thanks to anybody couold help.  Nico

have you updated to IOs4?

if you are up for jailbreaking you phone is it pretty straight forward.

try yo run this
http://ih8sn0w.com/index.php/products/view/f0recast.snow (http://ih8sn0w.com/index.php/products/view/f0recast.snow)

f0recast

this will tell you if your phone is jailbreakable.
but again only if you feel up for it.

When sorting by artist, if I select an artist with only one album it takes me to a playlist of over 1,000 songs (Seemingly random albums). This playlist is the same with any artist with only a single album. Artists having multiple albums work perfectly.

My music is very well sorted

Hi,

I am also facing the same issue.

I have iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3GS.
I am using foo_touchremote 0.1.2.1 on fb2k v1.1.1

This forum helped me solve an issue linking the fb2k library in Apple's Remote app.  Just to note as of Dec 25 2010, I have the latest Remote app installed.
The solution to the linking issue was:
-- First start a playlist in fb2k and then link the library.

If you don't start the playlist, it will only work to the point where to verify the connection with 4-digit code and then nothing will happen, the Remote app will time out trying to link with your fb2k library.

Alright so waiting for this crash bug fix.

Thanks to everyone on this forum!

I think you'll need to jailbreak your device unless you know another way to get the OLD version of Remote app (1.3.3) onto the dvice. Things stopped working when apple updated Remote.. Also, the source code for foo_touchremote was lost around the same time

There is foo_httpcontrol and an iphone template that mimicks the ipod player interface in a lot of ways.. it doesnt work for me because I dont use media library, i just have massive playlists (which it cannot search) but ymmv

ps; the link to remote 133 above is broken. use http://rghost.net/3823687 (http://rghost.net/3823687) (link valid for 30 days)

pps; i couldnt get foo_touchremote to pair properly when the component was in the user folder, but my setup is a bit weird (i run foobar as a different user to the logged on user) - if you have trouble pairing your idevice, try moving the compnent to the c:\program files\foobar\components folder

note: I doubt that you'll be able to add this IPA to itunes and install it on your in-jail device but you can try

note also that if you have to jailbreak your device youll probably install Installous which is a form of app store that maintains links to older versions.

Foo_Touchremote 0.2.5 + foobar 1.1.2 + Windows7 starter/Netbook

a) Foobar consumes a LOT of memory, although I thought foobar 1.1.2 has improvement for that?!?
Foobar after start, approx 200MB, after connecting with Remote 2.1 (from Ipod) memory goes up to 500MB
after loading playlist (10000 songs) memory climbs to 900MB OK, foobar database is approx. 100MB, but that is far too big and too slow (takes a minute to display)

Any idea if another plugin might cause that?

b) Remote gets often disconnected (timeout because of a) ?)

Overall impression ist that everything gets realy slow... selecting a song takes 10s to play...

Any idea?

What other plugins are you guys using?  Even after loading a playlist with ~3000 songs, I don't see the memory go above 65k.  foobar at start uses about 20k for me.  The only plugins I have are foo_audioscrobbler and foo_dop in addition to this one.  Perhaps some other component is causing your issues?

Update2, still consumes memory with foo_touchremote 0.2.6 + I removed ALL additional components

a) Foobar consumes a LOT of memory
Foobar after start 100MB,
after plugin Foo_touchremote installed approx 200MB,
after connecting with Remote 2.1 (from Ipod) memory goes up to 300MB
after loading playlist (10000 songs) memory climbs to 400...700MB
OK, foobar database is approx. 100MB, but that is far too big and too slow (takes a 15sec to switch a song)

Any idea if another plugin might cause that?

Do you know a forum to contact the developer of the component?

Config:
Foo_Touchremote 0.2.6 + foobar 1.1.2 + Windows7 starter/Netbook, .net 4, .net 3.5 Sp1, Bonjour 2.02

Has anyone messed with the "enable network traffic compression" option in the newest version?  I guess it just gzips the HTTP traffic?  I don't really see the point since you can only use this over a LAN, but I'm curious why he included this.

Just a small bump to say that it's worth trying 0.2.7.2 to see if it fixes your issue.  The fact that your foobar database is 100mb is really concerning, and that's probably why you're experiencing massive memory usage.  I have ~15k songs (about 100gb of music), and my database is 4.6mb.  Unless you have 326000 songs, something's gotta be filling up your database with random crap.

I've paired my iPhone in iTunes Apple Remote.
I've downloaded and extracted the  .dll files and put them into the components folder.
...and now I do not know what to do?

Hi,
I've got a problem with the plug-in.
First: My iOS device is an iPod Touch 4G. The Remote app is installed. The foobar2000 version is the newest stable, 1.1.7 as well as the foo_touch plug-in (0.2.7.2). On my PC the COMODO Free Firewall is installed. I also tried the MonkeyMate iPod app. The firewall blocked the connection, but I created a secure exception, so it works now. As a result of this experience I've done a similar exception for foo_touch, and the protocol says that the firewall allowed the connection. I'm sure, this is not the problem. If I turn the firewall off, the problem is the same.
The problem is: I can not connect. If I start the DACP server and the remote app as described, the server does nothing. The green bar runs through the window nothing else. I've no idea what's the matter. But there is one interesting aspect. The firewall protocol says that the remote app tries to reach Port 9, whereas the plug-in runs on Port 7000.
Can anybody help? It would be nice if I could try the plug-in!

I use my HTPC headless a lot (or like to), and love using this plugin with Remote and my iPad 2.

Unfortunately I seem to get a foobar crash regularly after 10 tracks and can't seem to track it down. Any tips on where to start? I've uninstalled a lot of other crud, but still have issues.

Hi,

Thank you for the wonderful plugin! It works almost perfect for me.
The only problem I have is when pause a song, WASAPI outputs repeating sound which is very annoying. I know the bug has nothing to do with Foo_touchremote, but is there a way to configure Foo_touchremote to STOP instead of PAUSE?

Thank you very much in advance!!!

Has anyone tried foo_touchremote in a home network with multiple computers having their own Foobar2000 installations? I'm fine with only one computer paired with my iPad, but as soon as I try to pair other computers, it apparently thinks it's the same installation and conflicts with no connection error. By the way, multiple works fine if Foobar2000 + iTunes on another computer (but not Foobar2000 + Foobar2000). How can I fix this? (I have made unique names for each computer and the pairing code is different for each computer.)

Answering to myself on the previous message: The fix is simple, just change the Service name from <unset> to a unique service name (TouchRemote DACP server options). That fixes the conflict problem.

Hello,
Here on XP SP3 & .NET 4.0, I've tried all possible versions of foo_touchremote, and the only one which is "working" (which means, foobar is starting properly, without crashing nor displaying error), is the very old one v0.1.2.1 aka "special XP fix". Even the 0.1.2.1 v2 is not working.
The current version 0.2.8 is not working, displaying error "Failed to load DLL: foo_touchremote.dll  Reason: This component is missing a required dependency, or was made for different version of foobar2000."

Is there any plan to support windows XP in the near future, or should I search for an alternative software ?

thanks, cheers

Problem solved, thanks to the developer himself :
So with latest version 0.2.8, which requires .NET 4.0, another requirement on XP is to have VC++ redistributable libraries, could be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555 (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555)

Now it's working perfectly.

Yeah, I have the latest version of VC++ 10 x86 (SP1 update). I also tried uninstalling it and going back to the pre-SP1 version linked on the plugin homepage (http://wintense.com/plugins/foo_touchremote), and I got the same error. Now I'm back to VC++ 10 SP1, which I needed for another app.

Nevermind, I had only the "Client Profile" for .NET 4.0. After installing the full version with the "Extended" part, it works.

This is ill. Next goal: hookup my Squeezeboxes with Whitebear (http://www.whitebear.ch/mediaserver) and foo_upnp, iPhone becomes control for music synced throughout my home network...which is already possible with the free Squeezebox app, but using foobar for everything is much nicer, especially with autoplaylists.

Just wish I could see and set ratings. Looks like MonkeyMote (http://iphone.obsidium.de/) allows this, funny I barely see that app mentioned anywhere in these forums, guess he was banned (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showuser=87419).

Well, after actually setting it up, I'm not sure the whole foo_upnp, Whitebear, Squeezeserver, iPhone controlling synced Squeezeboxes setup will integrate as expected, I'll keep trying.
Title: foo_touchremote - Remote control for iPhone/iPod Touch
Post by: swiharta on 2011-10-16 16:42:08
For anyone interested, I got it to work, using the "Playback Stream Capture" mode of foo_upnp, that sends "what is currently playing" in foobar to Whitebear -> Squeezeserver -> Squeezeboxes, controlling Foobar as usual with the iPhone Remote app. The downside is this mode forces you to transcode everything to a 320kbps MP3 stream, and you lose album art display on the Squeezeboxes.

Not sure the Foobar integration for controlling my Squeezebox network trumps having full FLAC fidelity and album art display, as with just using Squeezeserver.

Wonder if it might be possible to hack this component so items that normally go to the "TouchRemote Selection" playlist go instead, or in addition, to foo_upnp's "UPnP Controller Playback Queue", then you would get full playlist control of Foobar with foo_touchremote along with full FLAC streaming and album art of that playlist with foo_upnp.

I have noticed a weird thing tag wise.

When I have 1 album from one artist, everything is fine. When I go into the album, it displays Tracktitle, Track artist/artist and albumtitle.
But if I have more than 1 album from an artist, then when I enter the artist, go into the album, then I suddenly only have Tracktitle.

This is really annoying and a shame in an otherwise VERY well working piece of software.
I am using Iphone remote 2.2 on IOS 4, with latest foobar2000 on Windows 7.

PS - Does anyone know if the Iphone remote supports selecting queue to default playlist, when viewing tracks? It's a little annoying having to go into the playlist I want to use and the choose edit and add.

Unfortunately, this behavior is defined by Remote itself and cannot be changed. If you connect to iTunes, it would be the same.

Just a note, you can see the uPnP Controller Playback Queue as another playlist in the Apple Remote app when controlling Foobar, but playing a song in it just plays it in the Foobar desktop app, like any of the other playlists. So not only would you want to be able to select / filter songs into the Playback Queue using Apple Remote, you'd have to make a way to trigger the uPnP player selected in the Foobar uPuP Controller, instead of just having it play the song in the Foobar desktop app.

agreed.. since updating Remote.app to version 2.3 on 8-March 2012 on an iPhone4 with iOS 5.0.1.

The Remote app instantly shows "Could not find foobar 2000".  Tried to reauthorize the client (removed and paired again).  The two can talk just fine.  When I turned on console logging and found this sequence happening each time I try to connect to the library:

Went to my incremental backups (Time Machine in this case) to find it. Deleted 2.3 from iTunes and device. Resyncd. Added 2.2 to iTunes. Resyncd.

Warning though; no longer able to use the 'update all' feature after you do this, as you have to keep the Remote app from updating. No option to 'ignore update' for a particular app; at least I couldn't find one.

I hope that the author of this wonderful plugin will work to make it compatible with the newest Remote app, in time. Until then, this solution worked for me.

Currently it doesn't handle dynamically updating information (and it is not very well supported by DACP protocol, especially for album art).
So it rather would show station name or whatever. You may configure titleformatting strings as you wish.

Ok, thanks for your reply.

I asked because there are components (eg. AMIP (http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/)) offering that feature out of the box and I was hoping some function in the SDK could allow to add it in foo_touchremote as well.

No big deal anyway.

Keep up the good work!

I love this component and the Remote app on the iPad. Thanks so much for a great component.

There are a couple of things that I am curious about which I expect would be more properly directed at the Remote app functionality but since I expect little chance of getting any enhancement requests through Apple, perhaps it is possible to do within touchremote instead.

Regarding the title format strings, is it possible with the existing DACP protocol for foo_touchremote to implement the multi valued metadata fields rather than returning the multiple values as a comma separated list?

Also, does touchremote know the context which the metadata request is made by Remote so that different title formats can be used depending on the view being presented by Remote? For example, when in the Artist view my preference is to sort albums by date rather than alphabetically which can be done by including the date as a part of the album name such as ['['%date%']' ]%album% which works fine in the Artists view but then mangles the Albums view as the albums are then sorted by date rather than alphabetically.

So I guess the question is, does touchremote have any understanding of the Remote view so that different title formatting strings can be applied to each different view? Or is there some other way of handling this with the existing title formatting?

Thanks for any pointers that anyone can give.

There's a chance it can be simulated, but generally Remote doesn't expect multivalued metadata.

Yes, in most cases it knows the context, so different display/sort might be applied. But when you sort by something other than title, there's no way jump letters can be used, so it is the cost of custom sorting.

Not exactly what I mean. What I mean is, for example, when in the "Artist" view, I prefer to have the albums sorted by date so it would be nice to use a title format string for "Album" that included the date like this "['['%date']' ]%album%". This can be done of course by simply setting the "album" title format string in the customization. The problem though is that then in the "Album" display all the albums are sorted by date first which is not what is wanted. So it would be nice to be able to do title formatting for the different views which Remote provides.

Hello!

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured out it was a single plugin, namely foo_touchremote, that caused this. My apologies!

Foobar doesn't display a warning message but throws an exception and shuts down when it encounters a problem while loading a file.

In _all_ other media players I've tried over the years none had such a harsh exception handling. Try playing a .txt file that somehow made it into the playlist -> Exception + Shutdown. Try playing a stream that has a typo in the URL or returns some website error -> Exception + Shutdown. Why does foobar fully stumble over invalid files or broken URLs? Did I by chance enable some sort of extended developer/debug mode? How can I get foobar to chill? :-)

Thanks!

Try playing a .txt file that somehow made it into the playlist

Quote
Unable to open item for playback (Unsupported file format):
"C:\games\orz.txt"

And that's all.
Use Help -> Online troubleshooter or post the list of fb2k plugins here.

...BTW, what exception exactly?

I'll post a detailed crash log once VMWare is done updating, so others can learn from it.

Great Little plug-in, good response time. Before I never used my ipod remote app because I only play flac.
Still needs some work though, I only get a few albums to pop up if I go to artist or album on my app.
but not really a big problem. thanks man

Is it possible to have two instances of foobar (one portable) connected? It looks like they use the same config or something as only one works at a time for me.

I am trying to use Touchremote/Foobar2000 (latest versions) and the iPad Apple Remote app ( new v3.01) to play music through my Apple TV. I have to use mirroring because just Airplay is not enough to even get the iPad screen to show up. I get the iPad screen on the TV, but no sound.

Can anyone help me out or is this impossible at present?

Hi,

I have an issue vith TouchRemote 0.2.8.4.
I have multiple instances of foobar but i can only link my iPad to one.
If I specify a "Host SRV name", remote won't connect to foobar.

Is it any known issue about this ?
How could I set multiple instances on apple remote ?

Thanks

You should set different port numbers for each instance (in case there are multiple foobars on the same machine).
In case all the instances are on the different machines, it should work fine. Just give them different names.

Thanks for your answer, but the problem is, if I change the port number of any instance, I can't open it anymore with apple remote.
(It sees it, but can't connect).

Check the firewall settings. Seems something is blocking incoming connections to the ports you choose.

I'm using the following:

Core (2013-03-29 11:10:54 UTC)
    foobar2000 core 1.2.4

foo_touchremote.dll (2013-02-03 19:16:52 UTC)
TouchRemote DACP server for foobar2000 0.2.8.4

Lately my foobar keeps crashing and the report does show, that the touchremote plugin caused the crash. Any idea on how to fix that?

Another note: When controling foobar with my iPhone4 via remote, lists containing livestreams are empty. Is that fixable, too?

Foo_touchremote works perfectly, except for one thing: Internet radios.

I have a playlist in foobar with a few webradios that I usually listen to, and when I see the list of playlists, it says the Radio playlist should have 16 entries:

But when I click the Radio playlist, it says there's no tunes:

Is there something I need to reconfigure to get my radios to show up?

Welp, since you didn't provide what phone or OS your phone is using, nor what app (or its version) on that phone is accessing foo_touchremote, nor providing what foobar2000 version you're connecting to, nor actually contacting the developer of foo_touchremote, what exactly do you expect?

Hint: the developer can only be reliably contacted via his/her website at http://wintense.com/plugins/foo_touchremote (http://wintense.com/plugins/foo_touchremote)

Hi Everyone,

I wonder if its only me but for a while, I cant get the cover to be displayed on my iOS devices (iOS 8). It shows in the track list view but on the "Now playing" view, cover is grey and title is written in black.
I wonder if touchremote on Foobar is still compatible fully with Foobar? I am on v 1.3.5

Hi,
I just update foobar from 1.3.1 to 1.3.6.
The foo_touchremote plugin is now causing a crash at startup
http://pastebin.com/QTUAcgdV (http://pastebin.com/QTUAcgdV)

I have also tried using 1.3.7.beta but it crashed as well.

Tried both foo_touchremote 0.2.8.3 and 0.2.8.4 but they both failed.

Running Win7x64. I do have bonjour installed, but do not have itunes installed.

Edit: I got it working by installing the addon though the foobar preferences interface. Never had to do that before...
Not actually connecting to devices (I've always had issues with bonjour, not sure if its Windows or my router) but at least its no longer crashing.

I have multivalue genre field, which I guess is common scenario.
When I browse my library by genre on my remote app, genre is not multivalue but it's presented as comma separated list. For example I have artist with multivalue genre: "Abstract; Modern Classical; Ambient" and it's shown as single genre on my remote app: "Abstract, Modern Classical, Ambient" instead listing under separated items.

Is this limitation of touchremote server, or maybe limitation of my remote app?
Title: foo_touchremote - Remote control for iPhone/iPod Touch
Post by: Daeron on 2015-03-12 19:51:56
^ In most apps I tested you could use $meta_sep(genre) or %<genre>% to split tags. I won't install all the prerequisites needed for this one, so I can't tell where exactly to input these. But I expect there's an option somewhere that regulates how the library is shown within the app.
Title: foo_touchremote - Remote control for iPhone/iPod Touch
Post by: klonuo on 2015-03-13 01:58:27
Interesting idea, but it seems that foo_touchremote does not support %<genre>% (like facets does)
$meta_sep() looks like it joins multivalue field in single field with custom separator, and that's not what I'm after...

I ended up using $meta(genre,0) so that at least I don't get crowded genre browser on my phone

Thanks

and which is the 'newest' version? Mine says it's 4.2.3 and it don't say it's in need of an update so I assume it's same as yours.

Might be something else as for me Remote still works fine.  So instead of Remote version it may be the iOS version... Mine is 9.2.1 (by choice)

Thanks for the heads-up then. This means I'll be holding off updating from 9.2.1 to 9.3.1 indefinitely until I see confirmation it's working again on a newer iOS.

Another thing just in case... have you tried both re-pairing and re-adding the library to Remote?

So, something weird has happened. You can start a playlist, but once it starts playing, you can't change playlists or songs within the playlist itself UNTIL the playlist ends. I'm on the newest version of Foobar (and tried going back as far as 1.3.8), the newest version of iTunes, and the 2.8.4 version of TouchRemote.

Any ideas? I realize I can pay for something like MonkeyMote but the Remote app is really nice to use.

I should also mention that these were working as of recent. If anyone has any working versions of Remote + Foobar + TouchRemote that allows you to change songs, please let me know the versions of what you're running!

After a bunch of testing, I'm 99% sure that the issue has to do with iTunes and the Remote app -- people are complaining in the reviews of the Remote app in the iTunes store that it doesn't work with old versions of iTunes.
