[EAC] I'm no able to copy the first track from a specific CD

Hi,

I'm trying to rip the CD: Various Artists - Flash Hits (1995) - CD FLAC {MMOX 1161-1}

But EAC don't let me select the first track. I already tried the different gap detection methods and tried to change the extraction method to burst without success.

EAC window.

I noticed that the first track has a different icon close to the checkbox.

I did multiple accurate rips before and after this problem. So I guess that it is not a problem with my drive.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

EAC can't rip data tracks, and your CD drive seems to think the first track is a data track instead of an audio track.

Perhaps someone downloaded and burned an illegal copy of the CD, but made a mistake when setting up the first track.

No, it is a "legitimate" release, mixed-mode:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_Mode_CD , sometimes referred to as "Playstation discs".
https://www.discogs.com/master/911468-Various-Flash-Hits
Just copy the data session as files.

Not commonly seen in the retail. All those mixed-mode CDs I have ripped, have come from one and the same (small) record label.

Edit: Not to be confused with this weird thing which was for a short while found on releases as big as Rolling Stones.

I'm trying to copy image + cue using EAC and split the generated .wav file into the tracks using CueTools.

As you can see from the images above, CueTools isn't detecting the first track from the album.

What should I do to extract the first track from the .wav? I have to edit the input .cue file?

You can't.  That file does not exist.  You need to use different software to get an ISO of the first track and you need to edit the cuesheet to point at that ISO file to work.  ISOBUSTER can dump an ISO of the 1st track if you want an ISO of it.  I strongly recommend you keep an ISO or binary of this track.

Disc imaging software is used to create disc images of mixed-mode CDs (which typically is very old games). This can be a bin/cue of the entire disc for example.  At least this is how it goes when dumping games or applications that is.

I'm not familiar with this type of album release because I've never seen it used in a format that an old CD-ROM game usually uses.

Data tracks can't be ripped with EAC because they're data, EAC handles audio only and only audio, no data.  That said you might be able to open the disc using file explorer and simply copy the files for normal usage in a typical media player, you will not be able to re-create or burn the original CD-ROM with that method though.

Track 2 is the first audio track.
CUETools will only split the audio into tracks.

You don't seem to have understood the first few replies to your original post.

These mixed-mode CDs have two separate parts to them: a non-Red Book data area (which a CD player – and EAC – ignores), followed by a standard Red Book section which is essentially continuous WAV data with a cue header [the "Red Book" is the specification for audio CDs].

The non-Red Book data may be MP3 or something, but it won't be WAV.  It's like "bonus" material.  Try looking at the CD in your File Manager rather than with EAC.
It's your privilege to disagree, but that doesn't make you right and me wrong.

"WAV" is a bit imprecise:
The audio part of a CD isn't any kind of file.
And indeed I have "EnhancedCD" type CDs with WAVE or AIFF files in the data session. There could be anything there. (Including malware.)

I never said otherwise.  The CD audio data is raw PCM, like WAV.

Agreed, but I've never seen one with WAV in it and it seems a bit pointless.

I guess another difference between a Red Book audio session and a data session is that the data session has no error correction?

Yeah, I confused my self with what is data track and what is audio track and I was thinking that EAC could handle both if configured properly. Thanks for the clarifications guys.

I was able to rip the first track (data track) using the IsoBuster as an .iso file. I tried with ImgBurn too, but he was freezing during track analysis at the start of the process. Likewise, I successfully generated a .bin file from all the CD content using CDBurnerXP.

This track contains MS-DOS binaries to reproduce the CD and a video-clip of the first music "Saturday Night".

Now, just remains to try to burn a CD using the extracted data and see if all goes well. But I don't have any blank CDs around so it will have to wait.
