Title: WavPack lossy
Post by: Steve Forte Rio on 2013-06-14 22:50:53
Where could I find some nice explanation of how does WavPack lossy compression work? Is it the same as lossyWAV (dynamical bit depth reduction) or something more, like aac, using psychoacoustic model, ATH, etc?

Could you explain, please.

Heh, it comes as a surprise to find such an in-depth technical explanation of a relatively fringe subject on Wikipedia.

I say this not only because it should probably be on the official side instead, but also, apparently the enforcers over there have no problem with the notability of this relatively (to FLAC, ALAC, and WMAL) unpopular lossless codec, yet some people were still throwing fits about the supposed not-notability of foobar2000 last year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Foobar2000#Non-notable). Go figure.
