Beatles Live at Hollywood Bowl

Does anyone actually know why Beatles Live at Hollywood Bowl is not available on CD?

Probably the same reason as always with beatles stuff... They release things very slowly to be able to put out a new semi-interesting album very other year or something. Though there are no official release there are a great bootleg cd version around.

The Hollywood Bowl album was released in 1977 by Capital Records (USA), so it wasn't among the first Beatles cds released in the 80s by EMI (UK). Capitol has recently released 8 of the US albums (2 box sets of 4 albums each) in the sequence of their original release on LP in the 60s. We can only speculate about further releases from Capital, but the 'Hollywood Bowl" album would likely be part of a third (or forth?) box set from Capital.

They're probably trying to develop a digital filter to remove all the screaming so you can hear the music.

See ya

Hehheh, good one. Really though, that album can't be thought of as listenable unless you're looking to induce a migraine from the constant screaming (what producer George Martin likened to the blast of a jet engine). My guess is, whoever's in charge of EMI/Capitol now disagrees with their having released the LP in the first place.

Well. There was no Capitol box released this year. So our hope for an official Hollywood Bowl is fading away.

If this was on DVD I would buy it. They have a lot of beatles live albums.

Given the apparent internal bitching, it's a wonder there are any Beatles CDs.

Don't forget, we don't even have the first four official UK albums available on CD in stereo yet, or the others in mono.

We (finally) have the Capitol versions in both stereo and mono, but they're remixes.

As for DVDs - I assume they're saving all that material for something special. Even beyond Anthology, there must be a few gems in the archives.

Cheers,
David.

How's it going all? I wrote up a big post on this subject yesterday but something went wrong and my post got kicked out of the system. There were three BEATLES Hollywood Bowl shows that were recorded live, they were recorded on 23 August 1964, 29 August 1965 and 30 August 1965. Due to the limited imperfections of the primitive recording technology that was available at the time, the sound quality of all three recordings were terrible. In the mid 1970's, George Martin, along with the EX-BEATLES, got together in order to see if the shows could be resurrected and brought back to life. Listening to all three tape recordings, the EX-BEATLES were not in favor of releasing the Hollywood Bowl shows due to the loud and healthy lungs of Beatlemania. However, George Martin decided to piece together certain songs from both the 23 August 1964 and 30 August 1965 shows which would result in a pretty suitable show for release on Vinyl/LP and Cassette in 1977. Why it has not been released on CD is beyond me. Maybe George Martin is not in favor of it being released on CD.

There are many Bootleg CD's of THE BEATLES AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL, I own at least 20 CD's. There are at least 15 of them that I own that sound fantastic. However, Dr Ebbetts should be credited and commended for the best overall sound quality ever for THE BEATLES' 23 August 1964 and 30 August 1965 Hollywood Bowl shows. THE BEATLES LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL 23 August 1964 (2-CD set) Matrix number DBM-032A/B  and THE BEATLES AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL...AGAIN 30 August 1965 (1-CD) Matrix number STAO 6508 proves it! In my opinion, Dr Ebbetts went one step further by using today's advanced studio technology, which brought incredible results. Doing this, Dr Ebbetts brought THE BEATLES AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL 23 August 1964 and 30 August 1965 show back to life. You have to hear it to believe it. Take care.
