Title: Highest Quality/minimal Space 256mb Mp3 Player?
Post by: audiomonkeyboy on 2005-12-25 00:46:24
I bought (4) 256mb Creative Muvo Micro mp3 players for $20 as Christmas presents. My personal mp3 player is 2GB, so I dont worry about converting mp3s to lower quality.

What bitrate or setting would be the best quality for least amount of space on a small mp3 player like the Muvo? These players are not going to audiophiles, so the quality doesnt have to be the best. I figure VBR would be better than CBR.

The Muvo player can do MP3 or WMA.

I started messing with dBpowerAMP, and it has a setting for Window Media Audio v9.1 as :

VBR Quality 98, 44kHz, stereo VBR
VBR Quality 90, 44kHz, stereo VBR
VBR Quality 75, 44kHz, stereo VBR
VBR Quality 50, 44kHz, stereo VBR
VBR Quality 25, 44kHz, stereo VBR
VBR Quality 10, 44kHz, stereo VBR

Are the 98,90,75,50,25,10 in percent of quality of the original?

Any suggestions/comments appreciated. Thanks.

I use Q25, yes, they are VBR settting, I would say Q25 is around 80kbps... pretty decent quality if you wear earbuds and listen when running

Try LAME mp3 -V 7 (or -V 8) --vbr-new
