CompactOne is the standalone version from the current DarkOne compact mode.
In CompactOne there are other panels as in DarkOne compact mode (Library view instead of Panel Switcher and Filters, Lyrics Show Panel instead of Item Details Panel for the lyrics, a "Now Playing" button instead of the button to return to the normal mode (because there is no normal mode ), an improved rating panel which takes care of online radio, cd playback and last.fm (it is disabled then) and a play indicator).

I'll remove the compact mode from DarkOne in the next release to improve performance (not necessary to load two layouts each time ).

It has such a impact in terms of speed? I'm asking this because I don't notice speed problems (and my computer is old). In fact, right now this skin is much faster than my old default UI.
And (in the future) when we want to change between modes we just load the compact one?I think I will stay with this version.

Another question. Is there a way to display the number of elements of each playlist (example: temp (1234))? Or another (simple) way to know how many items each playlist has?

No, it doesn't effect speed when loading two layouts the same time, only startup time.
But it increases memory load.
And my original intention was to create a configuration, that looks good but doesn't need much ressources.
I'll make some more tests with and without compact mode.
Maybe i revise my decision

For "items in a playlist":
You can do it in your playlist switcher.
Go to Preferences --> Columns UI --> Playlist switcher, enable "Use titleformatting for playlist title in panel" and give this string in the codebox:
$if(%is_playing%,> ,)$if(%is_locked%,***,)%title%$tab()%size% Items

This is the "original" string in my DarkOne

Yes, i think you should remove it, for me i don't need 2 skin and we have the perfect DarkOne skin which is easier to navigate, editing etc. why need compact mode??

I never used it. And with its new design, it doesn't really fit to the main design any longer.
But for those who wants it i released it separately (and will maintain it too).

In my case I use it to stay in one side of the working space (along with messenger, for example). That way I can easily use the browser (word, excel, etc) and I am still able to see what's playing, to rate it, to see if the cover is present, etc.

I think I would use the compact mode if I had a 24 inches wide screen. In order to put it somewhere I could see it while surfing the net or writing to word. But on 20 or 22 inches screens, it's not possible in a fully comfortable way. So in this use, i think compact mode is not needed. I'm on P4 @ 2.8Gh 1.5 Ram and for me, a small cpu/ram foobar config is a must-have.

Still perfect config for my use. Except -I know it has been discussed before- I miss the use of the mouse wheel to adjust the volume. It's quite annoying to have to click several times to increase or decrease volume. I also know it would not fitt perfectly the esthetics but you never know, maybe tedgo is in a "Maybe i revise my decision" mood

To answer tedgo about the numbers of jpg used in album folder : the maximum pictures I personaly have is 6 (front, back, disc for sure; then sometimes inlay and other pictures) + 1 artist picture.



Here is your config with Calibri & Swis721 Cn BT D-Type fonts. They are good fonts for this release in my opinion; just fitt perfectly.

I don't think that i will reimplement the compact mode (still working on 1.6 without it).
It uses at about 20% more RAM than DarkOne without compact mode...

And having it open nearby other apps is really only possible on very big screens (i have 17" only).
But for this purpose there was a plugin that pops up from the taskbar on track change.
Can't remember the name though and don't know if its still working on vista...

I thought about it still for v1.5 and had an idea for a volume "wheel".
But wanted to implement it in a new config based on CompactOne design.
Let's see what future brings...

Good fonts.
But unfortunately the good looking Swis 721 is not for free and not available in Windows or an Office suite by default...

If you're talking about header yes, it's a basic 150-150-150 that fit with my Windows theme.

Something i could live with:


But no "Mute"-Button then (no place for it...)
Maybe i find a solution or will renounce "Mute" (its easy to click on the left white stripe or using the mouse wheel to lowering the volume, so there should be no need for an additional mute button).

No needed "COMPACT" button (because there is no compact mode then) will become "PREF" button.

At first see, it's a nice volume wheel. And Indeed the "mute" then takes place on the left white stripes.

The show console/toolbar/statusbar previous buttons were very nice but this new implementation you propose seems a bit more in correlation with main esthetics.

I made a test with an external mute button:

Thanks for this offer, but since i don't understand the code (what a shame  ) and only tried to fit it to my needs with try & error, i may have to write my own

The Compact mode is already separately available HERE

DarkOne v1.6 is far away from alpha-state and needs some improvement still
I will remove foo_exvar too which may cause to set up artist pictures twice (if you haven't stored your artist pictures like the default ui artreaders way - in the music folder and called "artist.jpg").
But the user guide will "guide" you through the process

I already simplified the big cover view: only 5 pictures on click (artreader or custom images).

Another things i want to do:
- "marry" the 4 wsh panel mods and the trackinfo used in the left panel to one wsh panel mod. But this has to wait until there is an easy way to measure the text for the trackinfo (not that easy at the moment).
- improve some code
- different grouping and sort schemes for ELPlaylist (may need your help for this: what grouping and sort schemes are needed?)

At the moment i decreased memory load at about 25% on startup, and will decrease it some more.

Not needed
No real cosmetical changes.
Except few minor things (for instance: remove round edges in ELPlaylist).
And maybe i will redesign the display, but i don't have a clue about it at the moment.

About the volume circle, I suggest making a tooltip which shows the current volume value when mouse over the circle. And a audio balance bar?(the left speaker, right speaker balancing bar or something like that).
