Title: Problem with.dsf playback
Post by: butidontcare on 2021-05-05 13:54:32
I have the foo_dsd_processor and foo_input_sacd components installed... correctly I believe. I ripped a number of tracks from a stereo only .ISO file using Iso2dsd.  No matter which output format options I chose the resulting files were always .dff not .dsf. Maybe this is normal. I wanted to be able to tag the files so I then used the dff2dsf converter from Signalyst. My dff files will play in FB2K with the output mode set to either DSD or PCM. However, my dsf files will only play if I set the output mode to PCM. If i set it to DSD it seems to go through the motion of playing it - bitrate shows and play time advances but no sound is produced.

The dff2dsf tool is so simple with no variables in play. The dsf files WILL play in PotPlayer.

Any thoughts about what I might have done wrong?

P.S. I have just realized that a couple of other albums which I have in dsf format will also now not play. These were converted years ago and used to play. I assume it must be something to do with my installation of the SACD components which I just did in the last day or so to replace the DSDIFF component... I just can't see what is wrong and don't know where to look to find out.

I have a similar problem. I recently had to do a fresh install of foobar2000 with all the various attendant components. I now have no sound output when playing dsf or dff files despite the proper DSD bitrate being displayed on my DAC. Attached are screenshots of my foobar components and how I have foobar configured for output to the DAC.

Hi :) @mountwash

You need "ASIO+DSD support (foo_out_asio+dsd)".
foo_out_asio+dsd
https://sourceforge.net/projects/sacddecoder/files/foo_out_asio%2Bdsd/

Yes:
Super Audio CD Decoder 1.3.x or 1.4.x (foo_input_sacd) + ASIO+DSD support (foo_out_asio+dsd)
Output: ASIO+DSD: "DSD DAC ASIO Driver"

No:
Super Audio CD Decoder 1.3.x or 1.4.x (foo_input_sacd) + ASIOProxyInstall (foo_dsd_asio)

The 'Yes' response works, but I have a problem with my Avira Prime antivirus in that once the foo_out_asio+dsd component is configured and up and running, it gets detected as a PUA and starts a cascading of component quarantines. Have sought a solution from Avira tech support. The reason I do not want to disable the antivirus is that I play YouTube via foobar configured for on=the-fly 512DSD out to the DAC. Thank you for your input.

Antivirus is a scam anyway.

Your opinion. How many businesses do you know of who operate on the internet without virus protection of some kind?

Probably none of them running Linux are running any sort of active scanning on their filesystems. Possibly network scans on their traffic, if they like false positives taking down their network regularly.

But since the whole concept of business implies that you're running Windows on your servers, I guess that means they're probably running multiple scanners in tandem. Can't be too safe. Trust nobody.

I run Windows 10 Pro on my personal computer not tied to any business. I don't have a server set up. I'm not familiar with Linux except that I've heard is is not susceptible to online attacks like Windows is. And although I found a site where you can get a Linux version of foobar, there are no sites for the various plugins to use in Linux to customize foobar for the best possible sound on an audiophile system.
