ok, I would expect that a few 'negative shift' messages could occur for each file, especially at -8, but if there are thousands I would be interested in seeing the file to find out why.  apart from that the exact number is not critical.
I just encoded all 50 files again using -8 -A tukey(0.5) -A flattop.  The log is too big to post, but I did a find and replace to discover the number of reports of "FLAC__lpc_quantize_coefficients: negative shift" and 63 replacements were made - so more like an average of 1.26 per file.
I'm on a horse.

I've just encoded 26 english language audio cd's (mostly spoken word) at -8 and i used the same find and replace method Synthetic Soul used and it said there were 986 replacements, which is roughly 38 FLAC__lpc_quantize_coefficients: negative shift's per file.

I get an error  trying to encode FLAC or WAV to OggFLAC:

I would guess that this is the known bug related to seek table size in Ogg FLAC.  the workaround is to use '-S 240x' for big files to limit the number of seek points.

On the comparison page it says that TAK is closed source and windows only, which it currently is. Any chance you could state that T Beck intends to release the source or something along those lines?

Edit: Also well done with this new alpha, will be putting off re-flaccing my files until this is released.

Thank you, but i would vote against it. It would be different, if i was already working on the source code release and could tell you a release date. But currently i am working on other things (SDK) and can definitely provide no estimation for a source code release date. Well, sometimes i also have to work on other things to earn a bit of money...
