Title: Yamaha CRW-F1 and AccurateRip Offset
Post by: KaiStone on 2019-04-03 18:51:29
Software: EAC 1.3 & dBpoweramp 16.1
Hardware: Yamaha CRW-F1E (1.0g) & TSSTcorp TS-H653Z (HD00)
Burning Software: Nero 7 & ImgBurn

It has been long ago since the last time I ripped a CD with EAC, but Iam still familiar with it. The first time setup EAC with my F1, I pay most attention on AccurateRip Offset calculation.

As usual, I insert a Accurate Key CD and waiting for the result +733. But EAC shows a notice that Offset miss-matched and the result now is +739  :o I insert some more CDs but it's still the same +739 all the time.
It happens also with the H653Z drive. The offset should be +6 but it's now +12. Why does it always have a margin exactly 6 samples? Those CDs burned by Yamaha F1.

I burn some new CDs (same source, same NRG, same FLAC) by H653Z. This time EAC shows correct result as AccurateRip databases, Yamaha F1 is +733 and H653Z is +6.
Iam so confused. I even re-burn a CD with Yamaha F1 again but every CDs come from F1 leads to wrong offset results with exactly +6 samples margin. It happens both while I burn with or without A.M.Q.R.

Anyone could explain me this situation?
And what offset should I use?
Or should I use +739 for CDs from Yamaha F1 and +733 for CDs from H653Z?

The Yamaha CRW-F1E = +733 & TSSTcorp TS-H653Z = +6 for the 'read offset correction'.
The AccurateRip Key Disc should be a factory CD not a burned CDR for proper detection. Many drives also require you to know the 'Write Sample Offset' to burn the audio data in the same position as a factory CD.

You can use a CDR to find the 'write sample offset' once you know 'read offset correction'.

A CDR created with the Yamaha CRW-F1E giving +739 as a combined read/write offset would mean the 'write sample offset' would be +6.
+739 - +733 = +6
which would match this database (scroll down to see search result)

That's exactly what I was thinking, but 1 thing is not clear here is Nero 7 and ImgBurn not be able to burn with Write Sample Offset. I did write an Offset Test CD with EAC, and it shows the result +727, quite understandable.

I know "The AccurateRip Key Disc should be a factory CD not a burned CDR for proper detection". So in my situation, as I burned a lot of CDs from NRG with Yamaha CRW-F1, what Read Offset should I use, +733 or +739?

I mean even in this specific situation, while all CDs from F1 have +6 offset margin?

I'm not going to suggest using an incorrect value for the 'read sample offset correction'. You can use a 'combined read/write sample offset correction value' when ripping a CDR created using the same drive without write correction. AccurateRip will be disabled but you can verify the rip with CUETools.

Ya that's what Iam going to do now. Unfortunately these CDs come from NRG so I cannot burn them with EAC using Write Offset Correction, and have to do copy with Combined Read/Write Offset.

Thanks for your help.

CRW-F1's Read sample offset correction is "+703" and Write samples offset is "+36".
It was a big accident of influence.

TOS#5 (https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,3974.html#post_tos5)
This topic was discussing AccurateRip compatible read sample offset correction. For AccurateRip compatibility, the correction values need to be calibrated to the adopted reference. Your proposed values are not. http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=AccurateRip#Offset_accuracy
