Whatever happened to ATRAC -X?

Reading online about the ATRAC codec, I came across a mention for ATRAC -X codec that was being developed...what became of it?
Has ATRAC type R encoding been software implemented ??
Thanks for a heads up!

-X is just the 5.1 channel extension of atrac3plus if I understand correctly.  Type-R is ATRAC1.

Both can be decided by ffmpeg, but I don't think there are encoders. It takes a lot of work to make a good quality encoder, and these are dead formats.
