Title: Looking for advice - naming convention
Post by: mickster88 on 2017-12-09 21:22:08
Wondering whats the best or approved naming convention here on these forums, and what is the best way to change a very large number of files.  I built this database of music about 10 years ago, and am now getting back into adding new stuff to my collection.
for example, i have a folder called Rolling Stones, and then inside this folder each new folder would be named like this:
Rolling Stones - (1982) - Tattoo You.  Is this acceptable or too verbose.  Thanks for any advice.

I recall so many past threads dealing exactly with that,  that I think going through them are probably your best bet. So here's a suggestion for a Google search (https://www.google.com.br/search?q=naming+site%3Ahydrogenaud.io) throughout this forum that may help you.

And why googling it instead of using the search box above? You may ask.

Because I'd first done it on my phone's browser and had probably done something wrong then, because the same word via that method had only yielded this latest thread only. Now on the PC it has worked alright; so my mistake, probably.

After you've decided, foobar2000's "File Operations" > "Copy to..." function will bulk rename the files and copy them into your new folder structure.

As save practice is to stay below 256 char for path/filename
