Title: Subband filtering

hello everybody.
i wanted to ask what the significance of subband filtering and working in the subband domain is. ive heard the term so many times about working in the subband domain but i dont really understand what the actual benefits and reasons are behind it.

By subband filtering you split the signal in frequency bands, while staying in time domain with your samples.

So you can apply normal time domain processing on just one (or more) frequency band(s).
