I'm planning on transcoding my entire Wavpack collection to flac so I can enjoy music on my android device.
That seems like a lot of trouble. Aren't there any Android players you like that support WavPack? I know Foobar2000 does.
GoneMad is quite the competent player on android and supports playback of WavPack.

Are there any settings that makes FLAC get near the compression ratio of WavPack?
Not really: FLAC is optimized for decoding speed, not for the absolute max compression. I use WavPack on a few files, but I do not use the extra high setting. You cannot have it both.
(That said, TAK impresses me - it is the only thing that can compete both with FLAC on speed and with WavPack on compression.)

Using -ep in FLAC is just not worth it, too slow for almost the same compression.
IIRC, that is even more true with 1.3, where the -8 setting got more clever.

Well, I need a player that can connect to the files on my server (Windows SMB).

I am a foobar addict, but never knew it was available on android. Will try that tonight. I hope I can get SMB support there or any other method that works with Windows.

Really need someone to test the Windows binaries because I don't have Windows.

Erik
Anyone here using Windows who can put it to the test? This version has a good chance of becoming the Final if everything goes well.

And the title of this message is "1.3.2pre3 (Hopefully final)".
So if you want to test FLAC pre-release then please do it now.

Did some testing on Windows with pre3. I hope this info is useful.
Got no errors, seems 1.3.2pre3 is a tad slower, but shaves of some bytes compared to 1.3.1.

Test setup
System info:
OS: Windows 10 Pro x64
CPU: Intel i7-4700MQ
SSD: 850 Evo

Encoders used:
- v1.3.1 x64 from xiph.org http://downloads.xiph.org/releases/flac/flac-1.3.1-win.zip
- v1.3.2pre3 x64 from this thread

Using Foobar2000
- Command: "-s -V --ignore-chunk-sizes -8 - -o %d"
- Test 1 is with metadata. Test 2 and 3 is without.
- No attached pictures, neither before or after conversion
- I closed all other programs but foobar2000

TEST 1: 1553 flac files (only file size comparison)
v1.3.1: 43 356 518 257 bytes
v1.3.2pre3: 43 337 307 601 bytes

TEST 2: One huge WAV to FLAC, from ssd to ssd, single core performance and output size.
Original: WAV 44.1khz 16bit
Duration: 6:45:47.887
Size: 4 294 967 300 bytes

.WAV -> v1.3.1

Time: 2:32

.WAV -> v1.3.2pre3
Size: 2 851 850 574 bytes

TEST 3: One huge wave64 to FLAC, from ssd to ssd, single core performance and output size
Original: Wave64 44.1khz 16bit

Just did some quick testing on an already flac album using the xiph binaries (1.3.2 was just released) on my FX8320. ~137x on 1.3.1 and ~135x on 1.3.2. Only difference was 20kb smaller on 1.3.2. Was using -8.

For me, flac 1.3.1 is a bit faster. Using an Intel i5 4460 @ 3.2 GHz

flac 1.3.2 x64: Total encoding time: 0:04.353, 126.18x realtime, File size : 66.1 MB (69 322 460 bytes)
flac 1.3.1 x64: Total encoding time: 0:02.902, 189.27x realtime, File size : 66.1 MB (69 322 460 bytes)
