Title: Missing albums
Post by: hard_rocker on 2009-02-05 00:01:13
I've searched the forums and none of the solutions apply here. Scrolling through my library I noticed about half of my Pink Floyd albums are missing. They work fine if I drag them into foobar but simply will not show up in the album list no matter how many times I refresh. I even added the Pink Floyd artist folder as my only monitored folder and they didn't show up, but when I added one of the missing folders (as the only monitored folder) it worked. I have the latest version. None of my folders are hidden or system files, and all of them have "Read only" boxed (not checked) in Windows Explorer. There is absolutely no relationship between the missing folders besides the artist, and so far I've only noticed these Pink Floyd albums missing. This was not an issue before. (I even tried running some attrib commands on my entire library that I saw as the solution in other threads, and rebooted, but the issue remains)

What happens if you change the filenames?

I don't know why but this has helped me.

I mass renamed the albums in question, then renamed them back and now they show up, thanks for the tip. Still, I hope the devs can address this issue in the next release, I'd say it qualifies as a bug.

Did fb2k's console didn't give you any indication as to what the problem might have been?

No nothing in the console besides whats always there (autoplaylists, scrobbling, etc.)

And by the way, after closing and reopening foobar the above solution seems to have been undone as the exact same albums are missing, and after renaming and refreshing the album list, they reappear. Odd...

I have encountered similar problems..that version over 0.9.6 can't find my Evanescence-The Open Door..and a lot more
This might be a bug, because if I use 0.9.5.2 everything is fine..
but in the 0.9.6.x about 300 tracks are missing.I don't know why.And I don't know which albums are missing,so I can't do a rename..

you can try that version(0.9.5.2) if you are in the same situation as I am..

Yep, I have the same problem, some of my albums are missing since foobar2000 version 0.9.6 (in 0.9.5.2 everything's fine).  I'm using Vista x84

If you have some files missing even after checking the attributes etc., feel free to upload your database.dat and specify which exact file/folder paths are missing. Someone might look at it.

If someone would care to look PM me with your email address and I'll send it, I'm not a member of any file sharing sites.

You can use our uploads forum (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showforum=42).
It would help if you also specified paths of files that are not seen by foobar2000 along with your database.dat file so I know what to look for in your file.

Thanks for the file, this gives some new insights on what the issue is.

I've built a special version of foobar2000 v0.9.6.2 exe that dumps information about ignored files with reasons why they got ignored into console on each startup : http://foobar2000.org/temp/foobar2000.exe (http://foobar2000.org/temp/foobar2000.exe). Please run it and report any relevant console (View => Console) messages you get on startup. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this soon.

I ran the new version and it gave a list of ignored files but the list was too long and cut off around the S's (D:\Music\S----) and these were all for hidden folder.jpgs and Thumbs.dbs. So I changed my Music folder path to just D:\Music\Pink Floyd, and I got this:

Code: [Select]
Watching: D:\Music\Pink Floyd
Folder ignored: A Saucerful of Secrets
Folder ignored: Meddle
Folder ignored: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
Folder ignored: Wish You Were Here
Hidden folder: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\A Saucerful of Secrets [system]
Hidden file: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\Animals\Folder.jpg [hidden]
Hidden file: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\Animals\Thumbs.db [hidden+system]
Hidden file: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\Dark Side of the Moon\Folder.jpg [hidden]
Hidden file: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\Dark Side of the Moon\Thumbs.db [hidden+system]
Hidden folder: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\Meddle [system]
Hidden file: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\The Final Cut\Folder.jpg [hidden]
Hidden file: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\The Final Cut\Thumbs.db [hidden+system]
Hidden folder: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\The Piper at the Gates of Dawn [system]
Hidden file: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\The Wall\Folder.jpg [hidden]
Hidden file: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\The Wall\Thumbs.db [hidden+system]
Hidden folder: file://D:\Music\Pink Floyd\Wish You Were Here [system]

So it looks like they're marked as system folders (which another thread about this problem said was the issue), though my windows is set to Hide system files and folders and I don't know how they're visible. I also tried the solution in the other thread to unmark system folders but it didn't seem to work, can anyone clarify how that's done?

As a simpler fix, I just made 4 new folders and moved the contents to those and deleted the old ones and now they all show up in the album list. Is there a way I can extend the scope of the console to see if any other folders are being ignored?

Thanks for your input. Since it's now clear that there are cases of people accidentally having their music folders flagged as system, the next foobar2000 version will no longer ignore files/folders flagged as system but not as hidden.

Thank you very much for the help, and for foobar2000 of course

Is there a way I can extend the scope of the console to see if any other folders are being ignored?

1. Check the "write log" checkbox in your Console window (this doesn't stick with foobar2000 restarts so you can't log startup messages this way unfortunately).
2. In Media Library preferences, remove the watched folder then re-add it. When done indexing, all hidden files will be reported to the console, just like on startup.

I've updated the exe at http://foobar2000.org/temp/foobar2000.exe (http://foobar2000.org/temp/foobar2000.exe) so it no longer ignores system files/folders, you can use it as a hot-fix for this problem. It still includes debug logging.

I try install http://foobar2000.org/temp/foobar2000.exe (http://foobar2000.org/temp/foobar2000.exe)  but it show me ""Error al iniciar porque no se encontro shared.dll. La reinstalaciĆ³n de la plaicaciĆ³n puede solucionar el problema".
How could I solve this?

It's not a setup package, it's just the final main application file. Therefore you need to have previous installation of latest 0.9.6.2 using normal installer available from the official website, then replace only the foobar2000.exe (in "C:\Program Files\foobar2000" or wherever) with the file above.

Sorry for asking again. I'm not an expert, and it's for my understanding.

Why had the files been shown after renaming when the folder is still flagged as system?

Why had the files been shown after renaming when the folder is still flagged as system?

Because your folder isn't flagged as system.
Which exact foobar2000 version did you experience such behavior with? There was a bug with symptoms similar to what you're describing but it was fixed in 0.9.6.2.

Ah, that would be another bug in hidden folder detection logic that needs to be addressed, renaming files inside hidden folders makes them temporarily visible. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
