re: laptop

I suppose that if you wanted to have a 300 gb storage in a laptop, the only way to do it is with an external usb hard drive.  That might be OK if the external drive was only intended to be used with a home stereo system.

However, as Tom pointed out, it is not possible to use a laptop with components designed for a desktop PC, such as the M-Audio and Plexor.

Here's a somewhat older thread: link. In case it is what you might be interested in. I'll hopefully build it sometime soon with a new up-to-date component list.

So what about the sound cards?

I think most shops will have sound blasters and, if not knowing better, I'd buy an audigy.

What is state of the art in sound cards? I'm not up to date. What I would need is a sound card with a good line in, a good microphone in, at least two line out, no surround stuff and good quality.

What (manufacturers, generally spoken) do hydrogenies recommend?

EDIT: Seem's I'd like M-Audio, e.g. http://www.m-audio.de/deltaap.htm
E-MU does also look pretty interesting. http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?ma...54&product=2220
But what I do not need is the on card dsp fx stuff. I completely do create music on the pc with host + fx.
