xHE-AAC in Windows 11 22H2 (or newer)

Finally xHE-AAC plays natively in Windows 11! Files encoded in xHE-AAC play in Media Player and other apps. Live streams in MSE web players play in Chrome 114 or newer and the latest Opera (and possibly other browsers). Edge should also work once it gets to version 114 or newer.

Anyone outside the USA curious to test this can do so with my Internet radio web players available at Max Radio Society. Click the Play button to launch the web player then select one of the xHE-AAC streams.
Cheers,
Phil

Edge in Windows 11 now updated to 114 and as expected it can now play the xHE-AAC live streams in MSE web players.
Cheers,
Phil

Great news! :) Thanks very much for the info! Since my old laptop doesn't run Windows 11 fluently: can you, or anyone else, encode some audio files with exhale (see https://gitlab.com/ecodis/exhale or the respective thread here on HA for a binary) at different presets and report back whether playback is fine?

Yes playback is fine on Win 11 22H2 build 22621.1778. Media Player ver. 11.2304.2.0.

Cheers.

Looks like fb2k has been updated to make use of this Win11 native playback too...

And a reminder that even though kode54's original foo_pd_aac has not been updated on the official repo, Case has an updated copy for all fb2k 2.0 users with 32bit/64bit builds available...

Thanks, my concern is that of those who produce speech content for work and as long as Windows 11 will be so marginal among users I will continue to produce a version in HE-AAC (which I don't like).

As one of those who is currently confined to Windows 10 and uses exHale for speech, I concur with celona and appreciate Case's updating of the plugin. Would be nice to have it built-in to foobar itself, but this works admirably :)

Thanks very much, marc2k3, for mentioning that URL, and to Case for the x64 recompile! Didn't know about it. Works perfectly indeed!

Turned out, windows decoder is using DRC by default.

Also, it seems to fail to decode properly or at all any mono streams. What a dodgy implementation.

Ouch. In what sense? Can you manage to record a faulty playback and share that along with the xHE-AAC file?
