Secondly, wouldn't it be pretty easy to write a small app to simply remove the first 44 (header) bytes from a WAVE file?  Or is it not that simple?  I don't really understand the RIFF chunk thing, so maybe I'm just being dumb.  It's been known.

Anyway, I'm itching to take a look at your encoder.  It will take a lot to drag me away from WavPack, but I'm always interested in seeing new apps. I've been following your other thread, and it seems you've impressed.

Edit: BTW, if you are only looking for a few dedicated testers I'm probably not your man.  I'm happy to wait for a more general release.  Sorry, but I'm just too busy for some serious testing.  I'm more than happy to encode a bunch of files and verify them using some provided tool though.

Yes, it's not a good name. I didn't have time to think about a good one.

It would be easy to write an app to remove (at least a simple) wave header. But actually i wanted some independent testers and you couldn't call them so if i provided the testing tools.

You are so right. It's really a bad name! This wrong association to ALAC is a big mistake! I hope, that i will find a better name soon....

Sounds really good!

But sounds also a bit like ATTAC (Association pour une Taxation des Transactions financières pour l'Aide aux Citoyens).

Sigh...

It seems to be very hard to find some good sounding acronym, which isn't allready in use.

Perhaps it isn't such a good idea to force yourself to find an acronym. Given the nature of the thing you are trying to name, you would probably end up using two or more of the letters T (from your name), A (from audio), L (from lossless) and C (from codec). There just isn't such a large variety of acronyms you can form from these without using unusual word orders. I think Tony Robinson deserves credit for not using an acronym to name his format (Shorten).

It might be worth to base the name on something that inspired you, or -  this is not a totally serious suggestion  - after the day you announced it here on Hydrogenaudio: AP1 (after April, 1st). Though if you look at Acronym Finder, even that one is already taken.

Just hoping to loosen up your mind.

There are many ways to name things.
  • Acronyms and initialisms. LASER. RADAR. PVC. HTML.
  • Common nouns. Quartz. Cocoa. Opera. Firefox.
  • Compounds. WinZip. WavPack. GetRight. MP3Tag.
  • Proper names. Microsoft Bob. Eudora.
I vote for Crystal. It's transparent.

Crystal is taken by more than one piece of software.  Here's a trick : google "INSERT_NAME_HERE" download

YAA download is fine.

Crystal download has VST instruments, GM patches and a video player...

Yes, but one is a band, one is a material for braces, and the only software (4 hits down) is teacher software for developing lesson plans  and recording class attendance.

Diamond will be wayyyy overtaken.  However, I really like Aquamarine, and that one seems free.  Plus, it can make a nice logo.

What ‘u’ and ‘m’ stand for is down to your discretion, maybe u = unpublished.

In the end you’re not yet marketing a brand name, do you? Personally, I wouldn't call something I had written “Crystal”. But I would neither call my daughter “Lolita”.

SonicFoundry (now Sony) already came up with a technology called Perfect Clarity Audio (PCA) - a lossless codec.
