Support - (fb2k) / Re: Foobar2000 v2.* playback sound quality lower than v1.X
Last post by Gabriel Schwartz -
If you use ASIO why would you need audio drivers for?
ASIO doesn't work without drivers. No matter the used API the sound device will need drivers to be usable by the operating system. Some devices use standard interfaces that are supported natively by the OS, like Intel HD Audio or USB Audio Class 1 and 2. Those will allow basic output to work with the built-in drivers. But proper ASIO always needs manufacturer provided drivers. There are also ASIO wrappers that translate ASIO calls to Microsoft's API calls, like to WASAPI or KS. But these are not quite as direct as ASIO allows with proper drivers.

You do need the ASIO driver from your manufacturer, but you don't need any Windows Audio Driver e.g. Realtek, Intel or any other.
I know since I never installed any Windows driver, so I won't hear any beeps from the OS during music playback and everything goes via USB to my amplifier (which has a DAC).

General - (fb2k) / Re: Running Foobar in Linux

Well that's because I did not do the kind of trial and error needed to work out a definitive minimum setup. I simply installed them while looking for a functional setup because I searched other posts for recommended verbs. If you want to know what they are good for you'll have to ask those people, all I can say is that they (probably) don't break anything.

Anyway, in my testing, foo_httpcontrol server didn't start until I installed msxml6.

But winhttp wininet may cause problems.

Biography panel crashes.
Listenbrainz user token in regor scripts doesn't work.
last.fm and listenbrainz playlists generator in regor scripts doesn't give results.

msxml6 seems to be more harmless.

So doesn't seem a good idea to recommend verbs that are not necessary and can potentially break things to users.

3rd Party Plugins - (fb2k) / Re: foo_midi (foobar2000 v2.0)

There's a problem in Secret Sauce. When i play some midis, they cuts in the beginning, and just sounds pianos, with weak pitch bends, and the map resets to SC-8820 (even if i have the flavor in GS SC-55), most of them sounds fine if i set the flavor in GM, GM2 and XG, but the problem is in GS and Default, however, some of them, aren't fix with any flavor. I leave you one of the midis that Secret Sauce plays wrongly, try it.
Is this a general problem or do you think it was introduced in a particular version?
Is a general problem, it was always there.

Other Lossy Codecs / Re: lossyWAV 1.4.2 Development (was 1.5.0)

Please find attached a new beta release of lossyWAV.

lossyWAV beta 1.4.3c, 02/05/2024 (expires 31/12/2024)
  • Major bug identified after @guruboolez discovered that lossyWAV would not successfully convert large files in foobar2000, i.e. those which exceed 4GiB of uncompressed data in length, using the --ignore-chunk-sizes option. Many thanks to @Case for answering my questions on foobar2000, which made identifying the bug much easier. The calculation of padding bytes to write after each chunk incorrectly assumed that the number of bytes of processed WAV file would not exceed 4GiB, which caused the program to fail when attempting to write exabytes of padding...

Hello!
It's my first post in here. First of all I wanted to thank the author for developing such cool plugin, I love it!

Does anybody here struggle with framerate under Linux/Wine? I seem to be stuck at 20-40 fps depending on exact settings. I suspect something is wrong with my wine configuration, but it's hard to diagnose without any point of reference.
