Changelog Beta 20

Quote
Added "low memory mode" in 32-bit build, restoring pre-beta18 style tag caching semantics.
Located in advanced preferences / general.
If foobar2000 cannot start up due to memory usage, it can be emergency-enabled by putting "enable_low_mem_mode" file in the profile folder.
    Misc search bug fixes.
Playlist group layout optimizations reverted (no more scrollbar jumping around stupidly), unless in the new low memory mode.
Fixed various RIFF64 WAV reading bugs.
Fixed blank edit menu shown when no items are enabled.
Thing is low mem mode reverts behavior to releases past beta 17.

But if beta 18 and 19 works fine for you, the low mem mode at 20 is not supposed to change anything. I mean, your entire library tags have been cached on 18 and 19 too. On 20 there is only a setting to not do it anymore, but it should not make things worse in any case. Maybe some error was added on the process.

Did you tried the low mem mode? Does it change anything?

How can i try the low mem mode?
And where can I find the "enable_low_mem_mode" file?

I have now done a clean install with f2k v2 beta 18 32bit.
Then the updates beta 19 and beta 20 installed.
The same start delay as with 64bit.
Then activate the low memory mode in Preferences/Advence/Genaral and then f2k starts again as fast as usual (See attachement).

It just won't work with 64 bit.

I tested everything again on another desktop PC.

Intel Core i5
Win11 Pro 64bit
RAM 16GB

The same result. When updating to v2 64bit beta 20, f2k starts much slower than before.
With v2 32 bit beta 20 this can be reversed by activating low memory.

I do not know how to continue.
I guess I have to stay with v2 64bit Beta19 or v1.1.16....

I got exactly the same, since one of the beta updated, I got very slowly to load the whole library, it also caused delay to next boot if last tab was the whole library,

E3-1230v2
16gb ram
WIn10 x64
fb2k x64 beta24

Well fine. I thought I was the only one with this problem.

Try (no guarantee):
  • Save: metadb.sqlite
  • Remove: Preferences|Media Library|Music folders
  • Delete: metadb.sqlite
  • Add:: Preferences|Media Library|Music folders
That worked here.

Unfortunately no success with v2 beta24 (64bit)

f2k v2 beta24 64bit

I have now rebuilt my UI step by step.
Everything works until I activate the Album Back Cover field in the playlist view.

When all back covers are loaded, f2k suddenly starts very slowly.

This can not undone by deactivating the Back Album Cover field.

Broken images generally fail to load instantly. Oversized images could be problematic. For a playlist viewer where hundreds/thousands could be scrolled through, caching/resizing them is cpu intensive.

edit: no idea about removing the column and the problem persisting after a restart. That makes no sense.  ;D

What image size is recommended?

Thanks, it's true... When Settings - Advanced - Album art - Prefer embedded, then reloading ALL Music in Album list again, everything got super speedy like used to... Now needs to figure which cover causes this...

So, this is the last attempt to clarify the problem.

What have I done now?

1. Installing V2 64bit Beta 17. No other plugins added.
2. All corrupt covers removed and replaced with new ones. BadPeggy no longer reports corrupt covers.
3. All Covers resized to Medium using Microsoft PowerToys.
4. Read in the media library.
5. Reboot. Console see pic 1
6. Activate the "Album back cover" column in the playlist view.
7. Reboot. Fast start as before.
8. Album back disabled.
9. Update to V2 64bit Beta20.
10. Reboot. Start much slower. see pic2
11. Activate the "Album back cover" column in the playlist view.
12. Start just as slowly as you did one step earlier. see pic3
13. Update to v2 64bit beta26. No improvement.

I don't know what to do anymore and will probably stay with v2 32bit. Everything works smoothly there.

Thanks for all previous attempts to help.
