Shift+Control+Click to open pages in the background.

Phoenix does have that, actually.    *pets*

(and of course there's a mouse gesture for opening in the background as well)

Both Mozilla and Phoenix do it better too - you can configure them to open links in the BG with your centre mouse button - much better

But Opera has its strong points, good enough for me to use it as much as the above two combined.
