I'm going to upgrade my phone and looking for a device with very good sound quality. I don't want to carry another device. I know that IPhone has really good sound quality but for many other reasons I don't want it. I'm thinking about Motorola Droid X, HTC Evo 4G... Maybe some other brands???

FYI, my HTC Legend is quite mediocre, sound quality-wise. Also, last I checked, there seems to be no music player for Android with gapless playback, though the app andLess (http://code.google.com/p/andless/) supports cuesheets (thus enabling comfortable playback of albums ripped as a single file).

Why so? Background noise? Problem with frequency response? If so, have you run an RMAA test on the device?

Background noise mostly. I haven't run any formal tests, I just remember my Cowon S9 sounded significantly better (though I did use equalizer presets), and, of course, had no background noise.
