Title: zoom H2 audible "clicks" in 24 bit 96000 hz
Post by: cbutterworth on 2012-02-18 23:44:50
I have owned a Zoom H2 for just over six months and always used it in 16 bit 44000 mode.  I have never had a problem with it.  However yesterday, I did some recording in 24 bit 96000 hz mode and while the recording was not distorted, I got audible clicks that seemed fairly regular.

Any idea why I might get these?  They're apparent even with playback on the H2.  At first, I thought that the clicks would disappear when I work on them either with Audacity or Reaper, but they're still there.

Thanks,
Charlie

Are you running the latest firmware (v1.90)?

You're probably pushing it too hard. Have a look at page 62 in the manual

Make sure the SD card is fast enough to handle the data requirements of 24/96 recording. I remember the 512 MB one that I got with my H2 was absolute crap and had to be discarded.

96/24 stereo recording is just 72KB/s, trivial for an SD card.  Even slower class 2 cards can sustain 2 MB/s.

So it's compressed 8:1 ?

Opps, should be 576Kb/s.  Not sure how I divided by 8 twice.

Are you hearing the clicks or seeing the clicks in the data?
