xp kicks CD out

Until recently my drives were running fine but now when I insert any type of CD neither my burner nor my CD drive detect/read the disc. It must have something to do with XP.

It is not a hardware error because the extra dialog from Nero in the Drive Properties shows the number and type of tracks a disc contains. But the Explorer only says: "please insert a disk into drive x:"

I didn't install a driver in the meantime, only played around with the autostart settings. Regardless how I set them, it doesn't work anymore.

How can I repair this? Or is there a patch available?

thx
