Replacing the navigation buttons

I'm guessing what the answer will be, but if you don't ask.....

Is there a way to replace just the Navigation buttons (Stop, Play etc) with something a bit less fugly, and without having to install a skin and/or Columns UI etc? I'm perfectly happy with my fb2k configuration otherwise, but each time I open fb2k I do wonder if this'll be the time1995 calls to demand the buttons back :) (I'm still using XP).

Thanks!

install Spider Monkey Panel v1.0.4 by TheQwertiest

Create a new SMP in scratchpad/layout. Paste content from this textfile:
%profile%\user-components\foo_spider_monkey_panel\samples\complete\playback buttons.txt

You can right click a button, select Customize Buttons... and you get to a configuration dialog where you can replace icons with your own versions.

Anyone know any good icon packs for things like transport controls and the alphabet etc?
It would also be great to have some choice in icons for common functions like replaygain, BPM, properties, etc, etc.

It would also be great to have option to change size orginal buttons for little bit bigger.

Yes, with my current config I am using "letter" icons for my user defined buttons (Add, Clear, Preferences, RGain Scan, Search, Tag, and Visualisation), but it would be good to have more choice.

Thanks everyone.

I looked at Spider Monkey Panel but it doesn't support XP, so unfortunately that's not an option. I'll wander the internet to search for icons at some stage as if I created them myself they'd likely look like I borrowed them from Windows 3.1.

I don't know if icons have changed much since last time I paid them any attention. Is there any info I should be reading regarding icon size or format etc, before I start looking for them?

Thanks.

There is also JSPanel and WSHpanel with the same sample files. One of them will work on XP.

Hello Darkflame,
in your layout it looks like you have a pulldown menu for the foobar output device. I thought this is not possible (see e.g. here).
How did you do that?

The thread you linked is over 8 years old. Output switcher toolbar was added in foobar2000 v1.4. Just right click the toolbar and check it.

As Case said, it's a new feature in the latest versions, very fabulous!

@Case, Darkflame: Great, thanks, I wasn't aware of that...

Just reporting back to say I tried JSPanel (or WSHpanel, I can't remember) but while I could create transport controls with it. I couldn't work if it was possible to add them to the toolbar.

They weren't too important to me anyway. I mainly wanted to make the buttons less fugly. It turns out there's quite a few sites for downloading free icons, but for anyone who's interested I settled on this buttons pack.

I stole darkflame23's idea for letter icons, and took the icons from here.

darkflame23,
If you're still around, these icons as playback buttons might work well with your theme.

Anyway, I'm not saying it's super pretty as I'm still running XP with the Win2000 theme, but at least it's an improvement.
Cheers.

Thanks, will check these out now! I did find an icon pack for replacing the main buttons, but they are a bit blurry and TBH just as bad as the original ones.

I have been wondering actually, once you replace the original built in FB2k buttons, how can you get them back again? They are not in the regular FB2K "Icons" folder.

I sent you a PM but you returned here while I was writing it.
To go back to the original buttons, I think you have to remove the buttons with icons completely, then replace them from the menu on the right side of the Customise Buttons window. That'll give you the originals back without icons. I don't know if there's an easier way to do it.
