Illegal file name characters replacement - album art

Should the album art search patterns be using the legacy (pre v1.6) and/or "Modern (Unicode) replacements of illegal file name characters" when looking for a matching image file?

On v1.6.6, the asterisk character (*) is replaced with Unicode (∗) through fileops/converter as opposed to the legacy (x). The album art search pattern, looking for %album%, does not seem to find the Unicode (∗) but does show the image when renaming that character to (x). Is this behaviour expected/reproducible?

Is there a reference list of all the character replacements, legacy and modern?
I see the legacy replacements are mentioned on the Wiki - File operations - Usage Tips. Perhaps continuing the discussion from this old thread.
