it was pretty hard, i was using my 30$ 2.1 speakers, it was a normal pop song, well encoded 320 kbps using the maximum possible settings cbr and the lossless file (which had a 22.1 khz cutoff)

So i know the total result i messed up thanks to me playing with the abx extension of foobar i didnt know the results could be saved after pressing the exit button but what do you think of my hearing? this was my first test of this kind.

You've demonstrated that you probably can't hear any differences between that FLAC and its mp3.

For fun, try a really low quality mp3, and see what happens.

Something like VBR v9, yes. Just to know what extreme compression sounds like — it might even sound better than you first thought, and it will prevent you from hearing artifacts in high quality mp3s where none exist, since you become familiar with how actual artifacts sound, instead of imagined ones.

Well, you did reach <5% at 18/26, but there was a lot of oscillation between correct and incorrect guesses before that, so that p-value alone may not be very indicative of much of a genuine effect; someone better versed in the relevant statistics can elaborate on this.

But yes, everything after that is rubbish! So why bother including it?

Because a set of 100%'s looks to the uninitiated like a list of straight As. Obviously super-good, right?
