Title: Ocassional stuttering and noise during dsf/dff file playback
Post by: Theobetley on 2014-10-20 15:07:55
Let me 1st say I love Foobar great playback and UI. Wav playback is glitch free. However I get some (machine gun) stuttering at times with dsd playback. I also get some noise (low level but annoying) on occasion. I have adjusted my preferences to 50 msec buffer size (with my Benchmark Tusb buffer size to max). I like lower buffer sizes sonically whenever I can get away with it. I use thread priority at the 2 level.

Any ideas on settings  or otherwise?

Try using a proper buffer size in the region of 200-500ms, or more. Contrary to "audiophile" claims buffer size does not affect playback fidelity. Please also make sure to use DirectSound output.

Eh... buffer size does not change sound quality, unless it is too low and causes the occasional glitch. Also, don't mess with thread priorities or file buffering, it will likely be the cause of more problems.

I love the program. I have it installed on all of my computers now. I had this stuttering issue on one of my computers as well. I changed playback to go directly to my sound card. !Problem solved!
