Foobar2000 for Linux

Was wondering if foobar2000 will be availible for Linux some day. Amarok is nice, but foobar2000 is my favorite, can't live without it

You searched for information about foobar on Linux first, right?  Try "+foobar +linux" without the quotes in the search.  I mean, I guess it's not the first result, but there is a topic dedicated to what people have tried to get it working.

Also, your wording seems to indicate you are asking about a native port to Linux... allow me to quote from the very first post in that tread here, as it seems appropriate:

Peter has indicated he will not develop a linux version of foobar

If you aren't happy running fb2k with wine (or an emulator of some sort), you'll need to find another solution... run it in a Windows VM, dual boot Windows, don't use foobar, etc.

Thanks very much for a good reply. If i run fb2k throught wine, which i have done before, is it possible to make it non-ugly? I dont like the win95 look, and the text font is not likeable. In fact, i think win95 looks better than windows programs running through wine.

Wine on Linux looks just as pretty as on Windows XP here. You can change the font for Columns UI and it's panels in their respective settings.

I agree that the default wine color and font settings (circa Win95) are hideously out of date however you can easily change them by running winecfg and using the "Desktop Integration" tab. The controls are similar to the windows display properties, Appearance control panel.

If you are looking to pretty up the window borders (XP Style vs. Classic Style), wine applications should inherit whatever window decorator you are using under Gnome/KDE. I recommend using Emerald if you like transparencies, shadows, rounded edges, etc.

The only bit I do not know how to customize are the buttons, sliders and scrollbars appearance. You can change the colors like in Win95/98/etc but I know of nobody getting windowblinds or any xp style program to redraw them. Otherwise everything in foobar under wine should look the same as in xp. You can even watch foobar with avs panels fly around compiz cubes, wrap around corners, do the coverflow app switch, etc.

If you have additional questions regarding running foobar under linux I suggest you join the main thread so that we can keep the information consolidated in one place instead of littered all over the place and hard to find.
