Sorry.I hope this is the right place for posting questions about the beta. I recognized a strange behaviour using the spectrogram (scrolling mode). When i click the right mouse button the spectogram stutters. The same happens when the preferences page pops up.
Nice, thanks!
Is the metadb_display_hook API still supported in this beta?
Thanks, it works nice especially the new ability to edit track titles and comments within the freedb dialog.
@Keikonium: AFAIK cwb_hooks still works over here in CUI.
Sweet. Thanks all.
The oscilloscope isn't working for me, but the other visualizations are. Am I missing something?
Thanks for the heads up, I really like the oscilloscope and spectrum visualizations
Improved ID3v2 specification compliance.
Are we talking about just the way the info is stored or does it also include native support for more ID3v2.4 tag frames?
will try this one :-)
Is the metadb_display_hook API still supported in this beta?
The metadb_display_hook API is only declared
deprecated in 0.9.5.2 - that means solely that no developers should use it in the newly created components. But it still works as before and no compatibility is broken. According to foosion (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=62410&view=findpost&p=557470), the time when it will be removed altogether has not yet been decided.
New visualisations are pleasant, but the freedb component improvement is fundamental! It will save a lot of work.
Big THANK YOU for the developers!
omg thanks!
Cool. Will grab this new Beta when i get back home and give it as test run.
"WOW" is all i have to say. fb2k has been going through some fantastic changes in the last few releases, i have been waiting for something like these viz components to be integrated for a long time. it always annoyed me that i have the most powerful audio/tagging/transcoding utility with very little visual feedback on the actual data.
one thing i noticed is my CPU usage skyrockets during some playbacks randomly while keeping the same quality/fft settings though.....maybe take a look at that before next beta/RC/final. sits at like 2-3 percent, then goes to 100%, not during playback, but if i press stop and play, it does.
Also, i would love to see a bit more grid config in the visualizations....finer grid increment/gradation options, and definitely a log/linear scale on either side of the spectrogram.
great work,
Leon
peakmeter is all mine!
great.
q: is there a way to do thinner lines between framed windows (http://somestuff.org/foobar_thin.png)?
The oscilloscope is great! Reminds me of the protracker days, thank you!
The Spectrogram seems to loose sharpness with high FFT sizes. In full screen mode I like the logarithmic mode, and it looks best in the lower frequencies with higher FFT, but at the same time the higher frequencies loose their sharpness.
Maybe a better downscaling would solve this...

Beta 2 has been released, with two bug fixes and visualisation full-screen mode toggles in visualisation context menus.
Thanks for the new beta but i have some issues with the dialog replay gain window, it does not always remember the position, can anyone else reproduce this behavior?
And it would be nice if the mouse cursor could be hidden when using visualization full-screen mode
IMO, the colors should be the same for full-screen mode and none full-screen mode.
And the possibility for changing the colors for all the visualizations would also be nice.
And please do not delete my post if i violate the TOS, move my post or make a split
Thought I should remind of this bug:
[a href='index.php?showtopic=61792']not corrupted 24-bit FLAC file not playable[/a]
The file is still not playable in fb2k 0.9.5.2 beta 2, Winamp plays it OK.
Thought I should remind of this bug:
There has also a converter bug been reported.
A little bug: (Here at least)
If you set transparency in the settings, then click the close button, the transparency disappears... Also tried setting it, then restart foobar, still no good. But when you open the settings window again, it comes back.
And one more thing:
Would it be possible for the little "now playing" play icon in the "Playing" column to show if you change something in the facets, then change back? (It disappears)

No bug. Transparency is only applied when the window is inactive.
Visualisations look sweet.
Looking forward to see more native DUI elements. Sadly a track-info element doesn't seem to be on the to-do list...
... with two bug fixes ...
Any infos about what has been fixed? Does foo_fileops now "see" empty flash-drives?

beta1 + beta2: Spectrum showing 160 bands in full screen mode the visualization is strangely stretched vertically so that the bottom axis with the frequencies is beyond the screens edge and thus invisible.
(...) the bottom axis with the frequencies is beyond the screens edge and thus invisible.
It is not displayed because there is not enough horizontal space for all frequency numbers.
This happens for any number of bands if the width of the element is small enough.
So lowering the screen resolution would give the same effect for less bands?
Maybe you could just ommit every n-th frequency number in such cases?
I noticed a WMA Pro file in Beta 1 that showed up as "WMA 9" under properties. Perhaps this could be changed to "WMA Pro 9"? It caused me no end of trouble debugging the rockbox WMA Std decoder looking to figure out why it wouldn't play the file properly.
Finally, finally, FINALLY an oscilloscope! Thank you!
no problems with the beta so far! it's greaaattt
I must admit that following suggestion is very pedantic, however: when bottom axis dissappears because of too much bands the display of "-60db" is cutted - could it be hidden completetly?
And a request for spectrum visualization: bars mode and maybe custom colors like in spectrogram.

does foobar remember the playlist that has been auto-resized ? if i switch to a different playlist or facet selection does that have the same width etc as the auto sized playlist?
q: is there a way to do thinner lines between framed windows (http://somestuff.org/foobar_thin.png)?
i'd like to see this as well
does foobar remember the playlist that has been auto-resized ?
Auto-scaling and column sizes in general are independent of the currently active playlist.
The oscilloscope isn't working for me, but the other visualizations are.
Any ideas?
Context sub-menus get "swooshed" away in the oscilloscope visual.

Does increaseing the zoom level help?
If you're zoomed out to far, it may appear to be "not working".

Yea, as of now it just looks poor:

@Redoubts: Wrong visualization. I meant the descriptions for the bands in "spectrum". But yeah the 16384 point FFT looks odd in linear scaling, but much better than 8192 in logarithmic scaling.
do the new visualisations work in ther UI than DUI ?
You can access them from the menu. UI independent.

Quite, although there is currently a nicer plugin (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=59249&pid=537817&mode=threaded&show=&st=&) for foobar, if you can't wait.

I zoomed to all levels, but I still couldn't see anything. It's just black.
I recently noticed that last beta takes much more time to write tags, but ONLY if tagging files (FLAC), which were added to the database.
Example:
My database is on path: D:\Music\Song.flac
(this path is specified in Media Library Music Folders: D:\Music)
- Writing tags to the file Song.flac OUTSIDE this directory (D:\Song.flac) is immediate and without any delay.
- Writing tags to the same file Song.flac INSIDE this Media Library folder takes much more time (sometimes about 10 seconds, but sometimes even more).
I can't remember that I experienced such behavior with previous versions.
My database is broad, but it is all the time the same.
Anyone have the same problem or am I missing something?
Thanks for the response!

that's cool, what about if i wanted to use oscilloscope instead of spectrum analyser in my layout ?
No, Squeller was ambiguous.
You can't integrate them into a columnsUI or panelsUI layout, they can only be integrated into the DUI.
You can however look at them in their own window, UI independent.

Do you use autoplaylists, Facets, album list or similar components that display the media library contents in one way or another and update automatically?

Yes, I use facets and album list. But I used them with previous versions too.
And new observation (but I think it refers to the same problem): using "remove dead entries" command from right click drop-down list in Facets have significant delay too.
